I saw them live and was about killed when Cedric threw parts of the drum set into the crowd along with an electric fan. He also kept fucking with Omar's guitar (ie trying to take it from him) and the sound guy had to keep running over and fixing it. I think he also tried to take one of the photographer's cameras too. It was insane. The music sounded like they were trying to masturbate all of their instruments/vocals at the same time though.
I personally love the one armed scissor by at the drive in the best albums by the mars volta are: 1. Frances the mute 2. De-loused in the Comatorium 3. bedlam in Goliath but They're worse cd in my opinion is Amputechture it was just sounds it reminds me of pink floyd's worse cd dark side of the moon like only one good song
Funny thing is that I like Amputechture more than De-Loused. I just simply do not like De-loused.
I love the song Ilyena
That is an excellent song for sure.
Oh what the fuck, a saxophone solo? Now they’re just trying to be assholes.

There comes a point in every bad-album review when I pause and realize that there are actually fans of this garbage. Two awful minutes into Viscera Eyes, with the chorus blazing, the singer shrieking, the horns blowing a formless toot, the guitar pounding out an ugly little Zeppelin figure, I hit that unbearable realization that there’s somebody out there enjoying this crap at this very moment. I know I said it doesn’t bug me if people like shitty music, but when I’m actually sitting here listening to this hurricane of overblown fake-prog stoner bullshit, it’s just infuriating to imagine that some college kid is lying on his bongwater-stained dorm carpet with his bitchin’ Sennheiser “cans” on, really taking this shit in and paying attention and thinking it’s genius.

The kiosk in my temporal lobe is shaped like The Mars Volta getting mauled by bears.
Haha. What a douche. A saxaphone? How dare they!
What a dick.
I got Bedlam on vinyl a couple days ago, sounds bitchin ass awesome. LP5 is supposedly almost complete, and should be released later this year.
There new drummer Thomas Pridgen is purely amazing.
lol hair metal. I'm going to see them this month in London. I prefer At the Drive-In though.
Great band, I've been listening to them for about a year
I've been listening for like 2. But I didn't get much into it since last year, so kind of like you HostelEffect.
I wouldn't call them psychedelic or stoner.. Stoner being stuff like Kyuss as named above and Psychedelic being more mellow like Dead Meadow.. I'd just leave them at Progressive.
No, they're not, just please keep away from trying to label them. I got into them when one of my best friends had The Widow on his ipod and showed it to me in school, saying "Listen how fucking high he can go!" And i was like, whoa, crazy shit, but as it was the middle of the songs the instrumentalism felt like total nonsense to me. I later heard the whole record at that same friend's place and man did I love it, It had all of their best songs: Cygnus.. Vismund Cygnus. The Widow. Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore (this is the best song they've ever made) and Cassandra Gemini, which is their second best. And what happened after that was, for my birthday i got the disc, Iwas happy, to say the least. Can't say i'm really into their other stuff though, I really dislike De-loused and The Bedlam in Goliath. the first is just punk rock to me, simple and boring, has some cool stuff here and there though, like in You take The Veil Cerpin Taxt, and Cicatriz ESP, and the second is just crappy, not even getting close to Amputechture and Frances The Mute.
Haha. What a douche. A saxaphone? How dare they!
It's satire by the way.
Haha. Mine is the reaction they were probably hoping for.
I love this band. Soothsayer is my favorite song in existence.
Honestly, one of the most talented groups out there in my eyes. My favorite song by Mars Volta is definitely Frances The Mute.
The ambient intro track Frances The Mute, or the Record?
Omar's got a crazy style. And their keys man is insane, if you see one band live, make it these guys.
Saw them live in Stockholm, not too much people there, but man it was awesome. I was seated, wouldn't want to stand anyway. the only Frances song they played was Cygnus.. Vismund Cygnus. and it was so awesomely extended with loads of solos and shit. and a lot from Amputechture which is second best anyway, so it wasn't that bad, no to be honest it was hella awesome.
Omar's got a crazy style. And their keys man is insane, if you see one band live, make it these guys.
Yeah, they do some ridiculous stuff live.

Is that very masculine woman about to punch Cedric? Edit:
The ambient intro track Frances The Mute, or the Record?
Frances the Mute was a B Side, I think that's what he was talking about (not the EP). I like putting it at the end of the EP.
Well yeah, Frances wasn't on the record, but it was supposed to be the opening track as it tells the story of how Frances died, it actually tells about all of the children mentioned throughout the record.
Yeah, they do some ridiculous stuff live. I don't get why they call themselves psychedelic.
Best lyric ever: "Persuasion deflowers your sympathy."
I don't get why they call themselves psychedelic.
They don't really call themselves anything, that's what other people call them.
De-Loused is such a great album. I have their other albums, but I haven't really listened to any of the others near as much as De-Loused. Edit: Take The Veil Cerpin Taxt is a kick-ass song.
