What it's like working in a restaurant and why you should be nice to the staff

fyi, we are paying for your food and your time
mcdonalds is cheap which is why it doesn't have waiters and waitresses, but why should i feel bad if i pay a lot of money for a service and the restaurant doesn't provide what i pay for
maybe the steak isn't undercooked, but i'm the customer, it's your responsibility to provide for my needs, else why am i paying you?
First of all, let me start by saying "my fucking god". People are the laziest fuck-nuts ever. I work at a pizzaria (worked there for 2 years) and the customers are fucking filthy as shit. They leave trash and half-eaten food all over the table, wet napkins everywhere when they "try" to clean up that spill, and shit all over the floor because their fucking kids fling shit everywhere. It's rediculous that people expect us to clean up their messes when there are 3 trash cans readily accessible from any table. It's absolutely fucked up.
How about you work at a real restaurant... maybe the kind where the customers aren't expected to clean their own fucking dishes.
The customer is there to spend money at your business. Your job is to make them happy, because your boss takes the money he makes and puts it in your paycheck. You sound like a fucking awful employee.
You think cleaning tables is hard? I wash dishes. I wash dishes for minimum wage. I do catering for minimum wage. I don't get tips. Every night, I watch waitresses make off with the same amount of money I make in three days. These are the same people who are scared of the dishwasher and ask us to get stuff out of the basement because they think it's gross down there. They expect us to take out their trash, because apparently their arms don't have the strength to lift a 15lb bag into the dumpster.
And I do it all with a smile, because it's my job. There are thirty million people in this country without jobs. My family has endured foreclosure and I'm helping to pay the rent - so seeing some snotty 'server' complain about (god forbid) customers who expect waitstaff to do their jobs just pisses me off.
Don't get me wrong - customers can be dicks sometimes. But if a customer is a dick, a customer is a dick. Waitstaff have to be better than that, because they're getting paid.
I always try to be bros with my servers. One time there was like, 5 separate birthdays within 30 minutes, and the server and I kept joking back and forth about it.
I felt bad for the guy, so we tipped well that night.
I worked at Earl's for a summer as a setter. Honestly the customers were fine it was the wannabe 'bro' manager and drama queen waitresses and hostesses that made the job extremely unsatisfactory. I always had the shit jobs dumped on me, always got the blame. Shift wise I was forced to come in for one hour and told to leave or clean the grease dumpster for my three hours or it would be a Friday night (which I told them I had football practice and couldn't work but he would moan at me over the phone anyway) and keep me until midnight. When I worked an entire day there would be a two hour unpaid break where when I had no car I just had to sit at the resturant.
Worst of all I got no tips because my manager told me 'fucking setters don't do anything' when we pretty much hold up everyone else's responsibilities. He offered me a dollar an hour raise to stay on my nine fifty when I was already on the raise list. Like motherfucker wait until I leave to try and give me a raise so I stay and not for all the hard work I did for you?
Edit: Hostesses got paid tips and all they did was seat people. It was our manager's rules that they couldn't help setters set, clear or help us keep the place clean. They even got to sit.

Severely underpaid most of the time, people just need to stop being complete ass-hats.
I personally don't complain because I am getting over-paid for what I do.
I'm a chef and have been for about 5 years now.. your a waiter and you're winging about stress on your job? You sound like a massive douche and the type of waiter I'd normally rip shreds into from the kitchen window for acting like he runs the joint.
At first alot of people are like you.. then they come to realise it's there job to suck it up and fake being nice to the customer who pay your wages.. People are assholes do your job finish your shit get the fuck over it and go home.
The worst of worst things is having customers come in close to closing/closed.
Even at a grocery store we cannot leave until you are through the line. That doesn't mean come in 5 minutes to closing and shop for a grocery cart full of shit. We will tell you we are closing and to hurry your ass up.
I feel extremely bad when I get off work because I go to Subway and get a quick meal so I am pretty much the person who does, I just make it easy for them though.
Oh dear fucking hell. This.
So much.
I wouldn't mind it so much, except Safeway refused to pay us if we went over our time. Normally this was caused by you not doing your job, and you deserved it, as there were two cashiers at day end to cover trickling in last minutes customers.
Sunday however. Oh dear lord Sunday.
First off, after 5, there's only me and a manager to cover the rest of the day.
Two guys, walk in at 5:50 (we close at 6), disappear. We announce thrice that the store will be closing. the manager attempts to go find people in the store to get them on a move out. These two fuckwits actively avoid the manager and eventually come up with 4 full carts of stuff. At 6:10. Oh and to top it off, they want it boxed, and light.
I wasn't out of there until 7:15. I stopped getting paid at 6:15, as well as the manager at 6:45, so we flipped them off as they left in their car. Safeway, of course, despite our head manager's askance refused to pay me or the sub manager for this, or to consider any rule change (like kicking these fuckwits out), cause the Ye Olde Thieves Guild (fuck unions, fuck them forever, i worked at this place for years and got nothing but ~15-~50% of my paycheck nabbed depending on hour count) refused it.
its not like this in norway.
Money is money, work is work.
Stop your fucking bitching.
Have you ever considered that the customer is also having a bad day and unerringly taking it out on you also, you seem to have this "I'm the centre of the universe" mentality when it comes to your job, I can understand and empathise with customers being dicks etc but learn to take other peoples feelings into account, maybe some guys going through a nasty divorce for example and just doesn't think to tip, can't "Eat at home" as you guys so stress it because he simply doesnt have the mindset to cook his own meals, poor chap needs a break and heads to a simple resteraunt to eat and clear his head. Unfortunately the waiter hasn't taken a shine to him and proceeds to subtly make his life a tad worse.
Do your job professionally, you are currently on the internet and theres plenty of horror blogs about the service industry, man the fuck up, you KNEW what you were getting into.
People trying to buy food when it's still in the opening hours? OMG HOW DARE THEY!!!!
You are threatening to mess with the food they paid for because they weren't courteous to you? Do your fucking job or stop crying you immature fuck.
