I'm expecting a scrapingly low U. [editline]26th July 2013[/editline] Overall, that is. I've completely flunked maths.
Hopefully you get retakes next summer. I'm not so sure if we get them on our exam board.
I think I did horribly during my Maths C4 paper, but I'm hoping that the marks I've received in previous exams will allow me to scrape a B. The difficulty change from GCSE to A-Level really did surprise me...
Because of ADHD, I get extra time on my exams. That means I have to sit in a seperate, cramped room. A cramped, quiet room with lots of influenza-infected students. Sitting there while the paper is done is the most drudging thing ever, considering extra time can be up to an hour long. The only thing you can hear is the clock ticking and people sniffing.
Because of my terrible handwriting ( the school had to send evidence of how bad it was to demonstrate how it is illegible) I get a laptop and because of that I can have extra time. I turned it down, much to my family's disgust, because I think: A) It's unfair that I have the advantage of being able to type faster than most can write AND have more time. B) It means I'll be sitting doing nothing when I finish :S I feel you, man. Oh, that and spinning pens in exams, my friends joke they're glad I'm in the separate room "Because it's so fucking distracting" xD FYI I took the laptop for legibility purposes, just not the extra time. That already gives me an advantage and I did not run out of time to answer the questions.
You're a fool for turning that down. Who cares about fairness? These are shitty exams that'll determine the rest of your life. They're unfair themselves. Shoulda taken it and blitzed through your exam. Also, seems retarded that you must have gone through a lot of effort and paperwork to prove your handwriting is shitty, only to turn around at the end and say "Nah I'm good".
Hopefully you get retakes next summer. I'm not so sure if we get them on our exam board.
My school is part of a scheme that lets people retake certain GCSE's during sixth form, I already know I'll be partaking in that. My writing is somewhat good, but I hate doing it for a long time. If I had a laptop I would be able to think way more clearly, and write quicker.
I'm not sure what to think about my results this year. I ended up resitting alot of my AS exams in May/June just because I wasn't happy with them, especially Maths. The thing is I don't need much to get into my university course because my interview went really well. 260 Ucas points and they accept General Studies. So I am relying on Photography, Computing and General Studies to make up for Maths.
Are you retarded, why would you turn down having an advantage in exams?
Given the chance I sure would take it, I usually check my paper over 100's of times if I have time left.. The amount of mistakes I find, makes me think what I would get if I didn't find them..
I am so glad I have 4 years left before my GCSEs. IF they're GCSEs. The idiot in charge of education, Michael Fucktard Gove keeps changing them. And my year group is the first to be affected. So far we've had: -EBACs -O-Levels I dread to think what next!
So you're like 11?
12 riding 13. [editline]27th July 2013[/editline] but don't hate, please.
I'm terrified about the results, I seriously need an A in Maths but don't feel as though I'm gonna' get it. :S
No Advanced Higher love?
had a really rough year so i think I've done shit. was my last chance as well because i'd failed once before at another college. oh well i'm not going to let these exams dictate my life
had a really rough year so i think I've done shit. was my last chance as well because i'd failed once before at another college. oh well i'm not going to let these exams dictate my life
There are plenty of things you can do without GCSEs. Apprenticeships often get people a lot further than exams ever do.
already re did a year, dont want to fuck up again
There are plenty of things you can do without GCSEs. Apprenticeships often get people a lot further than exams ever do.
a levels, gcse's were a piece of cake compared to these
Getting Higher results. Paper 1 for maths wasn't too kind for me but hopefully the rest will be fine.
I definitely fucked up the chemistry exams
Anyone else do Maths Core 4 this year? Now that was a fucking hard exam. It's why I think I fell way short of my much needed A in Maths I need to get into Bristol. I messed up a little in the Core 3 exam and thought "well this one was hard so the Core 4'll probably be a bit easier so I can make it all up on that one" but nope. Fate gave me the finger.
I need AAB to get into Uni and I'm confident I'll have gotten it. Woo! Still nervous anyway.
Anyone else do Maths Core 4 this year? Now that was a fucking hard exam. Did anyone here take IGCSE sciences?
Apparently, if I don't get my target grades for the subjects I'm taking into year 13, I'll be kicked out of the sixth form... No pressure!
No Advanced Higher love?
<3 Scotlands system is better than the peasant english system anyway
Are you retarded, why would you turn down having an advantage in exams?
I took the laptop, just not the extra time. Seriously, it's an advantage having the laptop, I just didn't want to be sat around twiddling my thumbs because I finished the paper early thanks to the laptop. There were no situations during those exams I ran out of time, so it would have been stupid and unneccessary. I'm not fucking retarded, I don't need longer to answer the questions than everyone else, it's not an advantage. And yeah, I did check through the papers at the end, a lot.
You're a fool for turning that down. Who cares about fairness? These are shitty exams that'll determine the rest of your life. They're unfair themselves. I also used the fucking laptop, just not extra time. I finish my papers NORMALLY faster than others, I knew it would just result in me sitting in a room doing fuck all and didn't take it.
Ah, the way you worded that made it seem as if you'd done away with the laptop as well as the time. No need for the hostility though, seeing as you worded your post in a way that made it seem as if you had some weird superiority complex or something where you didn't want to take the laptop because it was an advantage.

I'm sure I worded that wrong too, makes so much more sense in my head.

I am one of the few lucky ones that got an unconditional to LCC, I plan to do a year there then head to USC film school after.

Maths: Already got my GCSE Maths because we took it early (A). English: In our December mocks it looked like everyone was going to fail as we had never learnt the exam technique, by June we were mostly on target for A's. I think I may sneak an A but probably a B is more likely due to some course work dragging me down. Triple Science: Could get anything from a C to an A here, not sure really. Geography. Got A* in all coursework and mocks, hopefully will achieve the same. History: A* in coursework, B in one exam and A* in another. Final exam was ok and could go any way really. German. Ah, es war nicht gut. ICT: Aiming for a B, should be able to get! RE: First two exams got C's but in finally understood the exam technique in mocks and got A*. Not sure if I can bump my grade up much with the last two exams So I'm hoping to get mostly B's maybe an A if I'm lucky and an A* if I haven't messed up my Geography.
