We were given three hours in our Computing exams. Everybody left before the 2 hour mark, even after we looked over our answers several times. Although I am glad that we had enough time, it's easier to remain calm and concentrated without having to worry about the clock.
I got a B (Or at least, the teacher marked it as it) in both of the assignments (I done CIDA) just by doing all the work in the last 3 weeks. My best mate who slacked off less than me only got a fail and a C :v: [editline]30th July 2013[/editline] Also the worst thing is, they made computing a choice at my school the year after I finished ICT. [sp]But now they're cancelling it due to the lack of people doing it[/sp]
I'm hoping to do Computing at AS, but since I completely fucked up GCSE Maths, I dunno. I think with enough convincing I could manage it.
If I don't atleast get a pass C (Higher) on English and have to resit it I will literally cry, I can't do that shit another year. It's stressing me the fuck out.
Damn, reading this thread makes me feel so old.
Edexcel did really just give us all the shit. I need an A*AA for my offer which is pretty darn high. Here are my experiences with the papers I took (Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology) Maths A2: More below quoted Chemistry A2: Paper 6 was alright, kinda found it hard and I lost like 8 marks most probably. Paper 4 was damn hard, one question toppled me over and due to it, I made petty mistakes here and there. Anticipating a 15 mark loss for that paper. Paper 5 was good although it was tough. Don't know how many marks I lost but I anticipate enough for an A*. Physics A2: Paper 6 was beautifully easy as well as paper 4. I think I lost around 4 marks only for paper 4. Paper 5 was tougher than paper 5 however I think I lost maximum 8 marks being really harsh on myself. Biology A2: Paper 6 was tough but alright. Reckon I dropped 5 marks maximum. Paper 4 was really good unusual format but I loved it. Paper 5 was alright to pre-release content questions were decent. So much for studying last minute. Expecting a 10 mark loss maximum. Yea I'm feeling the same right now. I'm predicted an A* for maths right now. I think I only lost 2 marks in the regional paper for C3 after comparing answers. Taking that regional C4 exam made me shit bricks and fire out of my ass. I was crying internally like everything was going to fail. There were 2 girls in my year who literally just started bursting in tears after that C4 exam. I hope the grade boundaries are low enough for me to just get an A at least.
what course and uni have you picked?
Anyone here considering Manchester met after next year? Looks 'aight
Chemistry, Physics and Biology A-levels pending, feeling pretty confident about them. Hope WJEC goes easy on us.
I need B,C,C on Computing, Physics and Psychology A2s to get into my favourite Uni. I'm pretty sure I haven't got that. I always do shit in exams, even though I get As in coursework. Bloody school system.
what course and uni have you picked?
Imperial for engineering. Bloody high offer though. An A*AA
AQA
What was up with the Core 4 paper for you? I had no issues with it besides learning afterwards I dropped at least an A1 on the final differential equation question
thats cool brighton uni just deny my application for halls its not like i live 5 hours away or anything which would stop me going to house viewings and actually knowing anybody from brighton thats real cool guys
You would've been better off doing A-Levels. You're pretty much guaranteed a D*D*D* on a BTEC simply because the rules are so lax. I did an extended BTEC for a year and was babied through the whole thing, coursework deadlines didn't exist and the tutors basically do the work for you. Employers know about this and so they are nowhere near as highly regarded as A-Levels. I left college because I knew that I would be better off getting a job or an apprenticeship than wasting 2 years of my life doing a BTEC. (I was stuck doing a BTEC because of my lack of effort at GCSE).
Yeah, however doing the BTEC meant I was able to a real paid IT job in my two days off a week. The BTEC was only so I could get this: All 3 of my employers in IT have said they'd rather a BTEC extended in IT as it's actually more relevent than A levels, and also I've gotten my last 2 jobs on experience rather than qualifications. I'm pretty sure someone with a part time two year job as a network technician, one full time job as a network technician, and one time paid job as a software developer, and a degree will more attractive to someone with a degree, A Levels (better qualification) but no real experience.
Also, I'm wondering. Did anyone else do GCSE Media? If so, how was your teacher?
Yeah, and it was shit. We were the only class in our year and we had the same teacher for 1 and a half years, then we changed teachers half way through year 11. Our new teacher then claimed she put more work into our media GCSE than we did. Coincidentally, she was also my English teacher.
Slightly off topic post. A younger relative of mine is doing: English Maths Drama Physics What GCSE can you guys strongly recommend that can go alongside physics?

A younger relative of mine is doing: English Maths Drama Physics What GCSE can you guys strongly recommend that can go alongside physics?
It depends on what they want to be when they're older! Maths is obviously the solid one, but a technology subject such as Electronics is quite complimentary. [editline]1st August 2013[/editline]
I'm hoping to do Computing at AS, but since I completely fucked up GCSE Maths, I dunno. I think with enough convincing I could manage it.
I just finished off Computing A2. I got a B in GCSE Maths, and then an E in AS Maths. To be honest, with the board I was with (OCR) the only real maths required was conversion to/from Binary and to/from Hex. Those conversions are pretty straightforward once you know the technique.
2 weeks to go for A level results!
A level computing isn't really that in depth so you don't need to be good at maths.
It's been a few years since I've been doing A-levels etc, but I remember the anxiety of waiting for my results. Good luck everyone!
A level computing isn't really that in depth so you don't need to be good at maths.
I know that, it's just that I don't know if the school will even let me without a maths GCSE. I'll be retaking GCSE maths in sixth form but still.
A level computing isn't really that in depth so you don't need to be good at maths.
The applied modules of maths such as decision can be useful if you are serious about computing
I'm doing all of mine next year. I'm waiting for either Latin (hard as shit) or Biology (worst subject ever and bullshit mark scheme) to fuck me up.
Not really bothered about my results i think i did the best of my ability, and tbh if you think you have done the same then there's no point in worrying, can't change what you have got, can only try and try again and hope for the best next time, and nowadays whether your at college, going to six form/college, or going to university there are so many options. I did really bad in my GCSE's and ended up studying AS History, AS Economics, AS Geology, AS Applied ICT and GCSE English, and i think i aced all the exams, and whatever i get, i only need a D grade to do A2 :') Can't wait for results day absolutely buzzing! [editline]2nd August 2013[/editline]
I'm hoping to do Computing at AS, but since I completely fucked up GCSE Maths, I dunno. I think with enough convincing I could manage it.
My friend studied AS Computing this year and only got a C grade in higher maths the same as myself, and got accepted to do the course, personally looking at his work i didn't see much maths involved, if your good at ICT and love that subject go for it, you will love it :)
Took IGCSE this year. Which is just GSCE suited so that its compatible with education system in other countries. Due to really limited chose for subjects, and my school only teaches 5 of them. I had no choice but to take the Basic 5s which is English, Maths, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Resuls won't be out till the 13th though. I'm expecting high grades but I already fucked up a 10 mark question in Physics and two questions in Maths. Hopefully its not much of a impact to my final marks.
I'm terrified about the results, I seriously need an A in Maths but don't feel as though I'm gonna' get it. :S
Same here. My hopeful university course needs AAA, including an A in Maths. I'd be surprised if I get a C, based on the Edexcel papers this year. [editline]2nd August 2013[/editline]
IT is just a joke whatever level you do it to. I've spoken to people doing A levels in IT and, by the sounds of it, it's still the same old shit. It's barely any more advanced than in secondary school. They really need to sort out how the teach using computers.
At GCSE it's a joke - and probably some of the A-level courses too, but the AS/A2 Computing course I'm doing is really good.
When are BTEC Results sent through? I need 280 UCAS Points (DMM) to get onto my chosen Uni course at Sheffield Hallam. I got my grades back from tutors which was DMM, enough to get me on to my course, but I was wondering when the official certificate is sent through the post. My tutors were terrible at my college, they fucked me over with they way they organised the course and I only just barely got the grades I need. I could and would've done much better if the course had been more organised and structured and if we had decent equipment and facilities to use. (For those wondering, I took a Games Dev course, which I'm continuing with a Game Design course at Shef)
Results Day in 12 days and I get so nervous and scared about it. Damn Edexcel
I don't know if it varies per course, but I already got my Music Tech results.
I guess I'll just wait then. As I said, I have my grades from my tutors just not the official BTEC certificate that's sent to me

The certificates should be sent from your college, so it could be ages (or you could get your unconditional provided you meet the grades even before you get your certs though).
Fucking dreading next year, Government's gone reorganised exam times while people finishing AS ourses were still doing the old ones. Going to have to do 5 exams at the end of the year rather than 2 in January and 3 in June. Gove doesn't know shit about education.
