I respect the police unless they give me a reason not to
:irony:
You are a 911 conspiracy theorist. Of course we give a damn about what you think about the "oppressive" police.
Remember this one time a student was bitching in class about how cops arrested him for having drugs and how they all deserve to die. Our teacher got up, asked him to step over to the laptop he had and asked him if he was ok with seeing bloody pictures. The kid said OK, so he proceeded to show him pictures of what Somalian War lords did to people they didn't like. The kid turned pale and the teacher just said "That is a world without police." The kid shut the hell up for the rest of the period. The teacher almost got fired, but the parents didn't do anything since they thought he taught the kid a life lesson.
At this point, I'm absolutely disgusted with how people of my generation see Police Officers. I hear too much of the common "Fuck the Police" mindsets around school. While there are some cases of Policemen abusing power, that does not classify all of them. There are threads in the News section that break down into a clash of whether the cop was in the right or wrong. Sometimes the choice is unclear, and sometimes it's bright as day. There will always be people who are anti-law enforcement 100 percent of the time as far as I'm concerned. A very good example is this video: Comments like "lol* coppa got fukn owned" infect the comments of it, and that's pretty disturbing to me. Now, discuss your views on Policemen, or other incidents like the video above.
everyone breaks the law. police officers stop people from breaking the law. people therefore will hate police officers.
wow the scream in the video is quite disturbing
I'm not entirely "fuck the police" but I've been on the negative side of them enough to know that they want to get you in trouble more than you don't want to get into it. It's like they get a reward for every kid they punish. The other day these grounds keepers at a park I go to decided they didn't like the way me and my friends looked. He called the cops AND MADE SHIT UP to get the cop there. Once the cop arrives the grounds keepers were nice about it. "Oh we don't want to press charges or anything we just want them to know we don't want them here again." the cop's response? "Oh well you say the word and they're all getting locked up. I think that would be the best course of action." We didn't actually do anything wrong but the cop went on for like 10 minutes about how the only logical course of action for getting a bunch of innocent kids out of a park was the put them behind bars. Now I don't believe that the police force as a whole is corrupt but seriously... There's some crazy mother fuckers in there
To be fair, depending on what the groundskeepers said, he could have a good reason to think you needed to be arrested.
There are some pretty stupid laws but that is not the fault of the police - they are just there to enforce it
That video was in 1998, and wasn't even involved with any youth.
That video was in 1998, and wasn't even involved with any youth.
you're not very smart
That video was in 1998, and wasn't even involved with any youth.
are you 10
There are some pretty stupid laws but that is not the fault of the police - they are just there to enforce it
It's more about when police go above the law. For example (and I do bring this out a lot in police ethics discussions) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadwater_farm_riot here we have a situation where four police officers forcibly entered a mans flat over a tax disc - hardly the most serious of crimes - and lo and behold, an elderly woman ends up dying in suspicious circumstances. Now the Tottenham police force had alway been rumoured corrupt racists, and this only proved the fears of the community. Now we fast forward. The broadwater riots are in full swing, these young men are driven literally over the edge by the corruption that they deal with on a day to day basis, being arrested and searched without warrant. Riot police are sent into the 'farm' to quell the violence. One PC Blakelock - A perfectly innocent, well to do middle aged officer - is in this squad. As the police were overpowered, They ran and Blakelock tripped and fell. He was speedily surrounded by rioters, who proceeded to hack him to death with machetes and bladed instruments. Now, the first port of call is 'those rioters are monsters' which is true, but when you look at it from the other side, it wasn't solely the rioters' fault, because it was the bigotted bobbies in the area that had killed an elderly lady and oppressed the afro-carribean population, that incited this riot which caused an innocent workmate of theirs to lose his life. Another point I'd like to make is people say "you should respect them, their job is dangerous" my dad works in social services, and a friend of his was decapitated by an mentally ill man when she attempted to take his daughter into care. Social workers are under just as serious a threat as police, why aren't they shown any respect through pay or vocal recognition?
That video was seriously disturbing. Seriously, when the cop is screaming. Fuck...
Wow... that video was .. fucking terrible. Very hard to watch.
That video was absolutely horrible. I may not like the police but I would never wish that on anyone. How you could continue to shoot someone screaming in agony like that is beyond me.
Most police are dickheads, there are some good ones who actually care about what they do and want to make a difference, but all others are just cunts on a power trip.
Why is cop hatred more valid in the U.S?
Because you only hear the bad stories and those stories get broadcast everywhere.
out of curiosity, those of you who found it hard to watch the OP's video, did you find it hard to watch the Rodney King video I posted?

Give him/her a bro-fist from me. Do it for me. Do it for the police.
There are some pretty stupid laws but that is not the fault of the police - they are just there to enforce it
They don't have a choice, its their job to enforce the law and they get reprimanded for not following orders. The police are just like the military, they hold the chain of command sacred and breaking that chain always spells trouble. They don't get the chance to selectively enforce which laws, thats even worse than enforcing all the laws.
I don't generalize police officers and neither should any of you. Hating and generalizing over one personal experience is dumb and irrational. I've had a few run ins with the police before but it was either my fault for doing something bad or they were just maintaining suspicion and doing their job. You should hate the individual not the whole group that he/she represents. If that guy is a veteran then he has no respect for(or from) his country or anyone else. Hate people that claim to be soldiers or veterans, its pathetic.
people like shukaidoX make me sick two of my friends are police officers and they are both very cool
Let's just say i was not pleased when they gave me a ticket for driving with light off on my bicycle just cause i forgot to put them on in the hurry (and someone else was driving it for me). All i had to do was flip the thing on and i was good. But no, they were in a hurry cause i could hear someone yelling out of that walky talky. Petty thing i know. But still. Have yet to see public service by police.
Anyone who defends the guy who shot the cop is clearly not right in the head.
I would really like to know what happened to the guy in the video. Was he caught?
Yeah, he got the death penalty.

They only care when they fuck up to have another reason to hate them.
people like shukaidoX make me sick two of my friends are police officers and they are both very cool
That's probably because they are your friends
