"НА ПАМЯТЬ" - i think closest translation is "keepsake" or "remembrance".

yeah I wasn't even sure myself what it said, not to mention the spaces between all letters are equal
Searching "на пажятъ" brings me to old Cyrillic texts where I can see this specific phrase multiple times, but only in books before 1860ish. Is it an antiquated spelling of "памятъ" or does it mean something else? In these books a lot of the letters I see are no longer in use in modern Cyrillic languages and the words seem to be gibberish, like "свѣтомъ"? I can't find this word in related languages like Ukrainian or Belarusian.
Basically now with some idea of what it says I'm trying to figure out what it [I]is[/I] and not having much luck. It is held together by a pin shaped like a shashka and came with a tag describing it as [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niello]Niello[/url], but we don't think it's [I]that[/I] old.

I think you're digging too deep. My bet that's just a regular "память"(not "пажятъ") word with "м" letter stylized to the point it's hard to read it even for native speakers.

"Пажитъ" is an outdated russian word for "pasture", "память" is modern word for "memory".
oldtimey cyrillic texts are really hard to read even for russians. back in those times they really liked to throw ѣ and ъ around like it is candy.
"свѣтомъ" - i think it means "saint". ѣ symbol i believe pronounced like Ять (Yat'). like in "blyat" :v:
as for the metal thing - i think it's just fancy belt buckle.
Yat is the name of the letter itself, in words it has an "E" sound.
And Ъ was used to denote the hard ending of the words, usually for those ending with consonants.
And then there was a word "мvро", which reads like "meero".
Not even going about usage of Latin I and Yat... old Russian is weird as fuck :v:
