I got a Holga 120 for my birthday a couple weeks ago, my first film was developped and I didn't really know what to expect. Especially since A. It's a Holga; B. It's my first roll of film; C. First camera I own. Anyway, here are the best shots from said roll. You can buy 120 film at urban outfitters for like $30 But it's a bit cheaper if you use the 5 finger discount
You can buy 120 film at urban outfitters for like $30 But it's a bit cheaper if you use the 5 finger discount
$30 for a roll of 120? or is it like a pack? regardless, that's a rip off. bet it's lomo brand 120 also.
yeesh, such strong vignetting, i forgot the holga did that. how did you find 120 film? did it come with the camera, or did you buy an adapter for 35mm? or is there 120 in your area? also, good first shots, i like the last one, it's a cool double. keep it up, mang.
Thanks! I got my 120 film at a local camera store. Cost me around 8$ for one roll. Decided to use old 35mm film next to see what would happen. And as Slippery stated, I hope 30$ is for a pack.

Steve you have a really nice feel to those photos you've posted the last few days. Very sifferent from what you usually do and i love it. Can't wait to see more from you and marley
I like that song.... The picture on the other hand, is unfortunately boring. Not very interesting.
I don't even understand how that photo could bore you. (and don't try to respond by slightly rephrasing your original statement please).
-Snip was being a narcissist.- [editline]June 2nd 2012[/editline] I've taken your CC into consideration. I've hopefully made it more interesting! This forum is so inspiring guys, maybe I can learn a thing or two.
Why are you being an ass? All of your recent shots look like you snapped them off instagram. Everybody on this subforum is super friendly, gives cc, and can take cc. Everyone except for you.

Not very interesting.' even CC? it's just an utterly useless statement.

And I haven't been in this section for long but from what I've read, Bopie is a great photographer, but there's no need to be arrogant, not every shot is going to be gold and his last was nothing special.
But isn't he also much more experienced than most of us?
so what? A photo's interesting-ness isn't determined by the experience of the photographer, it's determined by how interesting the photo is.
I agree, that was handled very poorly. "I've taken your CC into consideration. I've hopefully made it more interesting! This forum is so inspiring guys, maybe I can learn a thing or two." What is that supposed to mean anyways?
He made it look like the majority of recent content that this thread has seen. Even if you don't like the style, there's nothing boring about the photos he's posted. They are very well done.
I'm just gonna say, If people held the standards that they do towards bopie across the rest of the people on this forum, there might be one photo worth giving positive crit every two weeks.
[stateofthesubforum] Wouldn't it be grand? A community in which we place only the very best on a pedestal, rather than crowd it with mediocre and above? And for the matter, why are we arguing about a photo? I thought we got past the fact that we all have different opinions. [/stateofthesubforum]
[stateofthesubforum] Wouldn't it be grand? A community in which we place only the very best on a pedestal, rather than crowd it with mediocre and above? And for the matter, why are we arguing about a photo? I thought we got past the fact that we all have different opinions. [/stateofthesubforum]
First, 'the very best' is unfortunately highly subjective, and if we were to take it from an objective perspective, this community would become highly exclusive. Second, the issue isn't the opinion in itself, the issue is in how different standards are applied to different people.
Don't hate dude. He was asking how you achieved that effect and I only said it was a mix of the focal length, aperture, the dof that cames with full-frame and good lighting. If I am wrong in saying that this is part of the 'trick' then please enlighten me on what else you did to achieve those pictures
Well you made it seem like photography skill wasn't a part of the equation at all, there are three parts to it. Equipment, knowledge of the equipment and personal eye. Also there is post processing applied which without, the photo wouldn't be anywhere near as aesthetically pleasing. Yes you're correct in assuming the technical aspects of the photo, however you fail to mention the other necessary components, thats all i was saying. You made it seem like what i did was a fluke rather than actually knowing what i was doing.
Why are you being an ass? You haven't been a member of this sub forum long enough to determine how everyones attitudes are, especially bopies.
I like that song.... The picture on the other hand, is unfortunately boring. Not very interesting.
Being another recipient of your incoherent criticism, i find it completely useless in both cases. You don't give constructive criticism at all, just negative criticism with not a lot of reason in. I also wonder why you don't comment on any other photos on facepunch, there have been many photos which i personally find a lot more 'boring' than bopies photo which you haven't jumped on, why is that?
the fuck is going on in this thread everyone needs to chill out with eachother
log in to facepunch this morning, see 41 new posts in this thread.. open it up and BAM. You guys are all fighting and shit. STOP. NOW. I MEAN IT, I WILL GET ANGRY. Look, bopie has a massive talent for photography and has ooooodles of knowledge pouring out of him. He is my biggest inspiration on this forum and produces a constant barrage of awesome photos and methinks he is the most consistent photographer hands down, but Steve that's no excuse to be an asshole to people who have less knowledge. EVERYONE is entitled to their opinions whether you agree with it or not.

elaborate? i dont quite fully understand? Also, content:

However, the thing that stands out about your pictures is the shallow depth of field. Post processing can only take it so far. So I only talked about how to achieve that instead of all the other things. I didn't mean to imply the picture was taken without effort, I was trying to name what the biggest factors were in achieving those pictures
First, 'the very best' is unfortunately highly subjective, and if we were to take it from an objective perspective, this community would become highly exclusive. Second, the issue isn't the opinion in itself, the issue is in how different standards are applied to different people.
Despite the subjectivity, wouldn't having the very best of everyone's taste at the top be better than showering everything better than 3/5 stars with praise? The ideal is subjective, but the ideal of say, your favourite three photos of the last month, is a concrete model that cannot be objectified. The exclusivity would do nothing but promote a higher standard of photography from everyone. I have seen there are a few photographers on the forum still stuck taking macros in mum's garden, wouldn't it be great to be able to give them all a push out of that rut? For the point about standards, this sort of behaviour is completely normal and should be encouraged. Would you expect a merry young male from the backstreets of the Marcy Projects to act with the same courtesy and manner as one of the young British royals? No, because each have their own background and public demand for different behaviours. Applying this to different photographers is good because it promotes the consistent production of high quality and well thought out work, and progression. Setting the standard for photography from a photographer's previous work is setting a bar that this photographer should always be hitting, and perhaps even exceeding; this can do nothing but good.
