Do you guys all edit your stuff in photoshop? And if you do, could you post the before and after, just so I have an idea how much you do?

I actually really like some of the tones in the original. Feels sort of inviting.
I don't particularly like how blown out the sky has become. Did you edit that as it's own layer or just as part of the rest of the picture?

I'm going to have the agree with Kabstrac, that huge white space is rather distracting, I feel it would be much better if the subject was closer to that rail and the image was more or less straight on with the stairway.

Perhaps you should attempt to move further away from your subject. Sure macro and extreme macro shots like these are fun to do but they start to become not very interesting after a while.
If there was a blue sky or some bright puffy cloud it would have been a good contrast. Otherwise it's pretty nice.
if youre working on portraits to go in the yearbook and stuff, you should probably focus more on the subject, ie light her more prominently, put her more centered in the frame, etc
