Oh wow, that fucking sucks. ^ [editline]8th August 2012[/editline] Not the photo, the venue. awful.
better?
Much better subject wise. Colors feel a bit off to me. Maybe a tad too much blue, I like my portraits a bit warmer. And it makes me laugh when I look at her arm because I can still kinda see her arm bending weird... :v:
i did the background and her independently, so the background is a bit more blue. on my iphone the colors look pretty warm, they are colder on my screen. and haha that's just how she bends it, not all of them are like that. i have 18 more i need to edit, i'll probably posting a few more. but she said her parents are happy with them, the one she made her profile picture got like 50 likes in an hour. so she's happy and her family is, i feel very accomplished :)
Yeahhhh, I have 350 to sort though.... Her parents don't really understand photoshop either, so she wants me to upload them all to walgreens...
yikes that sounds like a nightmare. what i did was just dump my card at her house with the unedited ones, have her pick her favorites and email me the numbers, now i'm editing them. i shot with extremely flat color profiles so the images aren't that usable until edited, so i think my idea is working pretty well.
If we're doing senior picture critique, what do you guys think of this shot?
i did the background and her independently,
What's the best way to do this?
If we're doing senior picture critique, what do you guys think of this shot?
Finding it a little dark, as if there isn't enough emphasis on the model. Try burning the area around her a little bit. Useful tip, in case you didn't already know: Flatten the image, create a layer from the background, duplicate said layer, ctrl+shift+U to desaturate, go to filters>other>highpass, set it so you can just see the outline of your subject(s), and then change that duplicate layer's blend mode to "overlay". Makes for a much crisper image. With the edit: I don't mean to hijack, I just want to show you what I'm talking about. She suddenly becomes the focus of the piece, and the whole thing is sharper overall thanks to that high-pass technique.
TinyTank, I don't know if my monitor's not calibrated properly but the skin tones look a little off to me, everything else is great though.
You can also use Filter>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask Fiddle around with those settings to bring out detail as well, just don't overdo it. Man I wish I had some people to shoot...
What's the best way to do this?
well you start with a VERY flat color profile. i shoot jpeg, so i am taking the portrait color setting and lowering the contrast all the way (increased dynamic range sort of), then colors and sharpness a little. then in editing i am selecting her with the polygon lasso tool, then feathering it a bit in order to make it not too jagged. then you start with the exposure tools, mess with gamma and exposure to get decent skin tones, then you add contrast with the offset tool. then you proceed to add contrast. that's how i'm shooting directly into the sun without a flash and coming out with usable images. i kind of just made it up for this shoot so it's not perfected yet but i'll let you know more of the process if this isn't helpful
Flickr acting up, nevermind.
Sorry I'm pretty new to this. Thanks for the (sort of) criticism. I'll keep those things in mind next time.
I was being an asshole, but only in response to you being all mystical about a pretty bad photo and leaving it there like you're going to get a wave of praise. [editline]8th August 2012[/editline] Also nubscraper, fuck.

I hate concerts in places with seats. Fucked up on the quote, sorry, I'm new here.
Wow I posted this so long ago I don't even remember when. It was a free concert, so I couldn't really complain either way :v:
A concert where you are needed to sit is not fun, but the idea is somewhat interesting to photograph. Although it does give off this "wow that looks boring as fuck" vibe
With the edit: I don't mean to hijack, I just want to show you what I'm talking about. I'm probably not going to have anything of "Artistic" value for awhile, I've been more interested in seeing what the new version of Magic Lantern can do. For example time-lapses that record straight to avi with the shutter speed override function. (Which uses a lot of battery, 2 hours of straight footage before a charged T3i died) Shot with a T3i over the course of about two hours at a frame rate of .2 fps, a 5 second exposure every frame, with the aperture at f/22 and the ISO at 70. This is really just child's play, but I'm thoroughly impressed with what the Magic Lantern team has been able to accomplish. I bet they'll improve even more once they get a good look the code for the new 2.0 firmware for the 7D. I have one of the nights sky but I forgot about the sensor heating up and then causing noise, so I didn't post it even though 2/3 of it are nice pieces of footage, I guess.
I was being an asshole, but only in response to you being all mystical about a pretty bad photo and leaving it there like you're going to get a wave of praise.
Oh. My bad, I didn't mean to be 'all mystical'. I thought it was good but I guess I was getting caught up in the excitement of getting a new camera.

Shit.
It looks epic but please straighten the horizon, hnngh
Too much headspace? Think it needs a crop at all?
Here's a scrapped photograph I never showed anyone or did anything with I just feel like dumping it here. [editline]8th August 2012[/editline] Why not this scrapped bird too?
I can see why you scrapped them. Also the picture's huge. Make it 800-1000px on the longest side.
Ohfoohy you got plenty of headspace. Any less and you're cramping it
[t]http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8gonjljqU1r223xwo1_r3_1280.jpg[/t] an unnecessary 40.1 megapixels, pano-stitched because I had a 50mm prime on my D7000, and if I stood back any farther I'd get run over by a bus on a bridge made out of terrifying metal grates also [t]http://i47.tinypic.com/292037m.png[/t]
Not too sure on this one motherfuckers, whaddya think? First roll on the 67ii. Had some problems with expired film, learnt my lesson though.
