How did I do?[/QUOTE] 2nd one is nice, though i suggest giving a bit more room on the right. and think about investing in a circular polarizer filter, they can cut out a lot of reflections that you are having and give a cleaner overall look.

I don't like it, it's too bland, straight on flash doesn't do it any justice and the subject matter in itself is boring as well. Maybe had you picked a different angle and maybe found some other lighting technique to light the scene a bit differently it would've been a little more interesting, but that's just my 2c. Keep shooting! :D

In terms of image DoF and quality what do you think? :-).

The DOF looks fake and the image is very soft. Try going outside with your camera and take pictures of stuff that catches your eye, whether it be people, objects, plants, buildings, etc. You'll get far more interesting results. DOF and image quality (as in sharpness, etc) aren't everything.

I don't mean unfocused. When I said "DOF", I meant relying on a heavily blurred background to isolate the subject.

So I went out to test my home made ND Filter and I got some photos that blow any of the test shots I got out of the water. May I present to you a chillin' Great Horned Owl! I was concerned for it since it had been sitting in the water for quite some time and hadn't moved a muscle as far as I could see, so I cautiously approached it. I know! I'm was so excited when I realized that odd stump was actually an owl, I slowly backed up to my camera bag to swap lenses so I could get a closer view without immediately getting within 6 feet of it.
