well, not to be an ass, but they both seem very bland. nothing really draws me in when i look at them, just foliage.
also, for the picture that seemed too big, the cat is out of focus, and also can't help but feel the picture is very bland. however, i did read that you had received the camera today, so just keep a look out for more interesting subjects, and practice a bit on your focus. may be a bit tough though due to the size of the viewfinder, but you'll get the hang of it.
edit: also, took this picture the other day.

other than the fact that it's out of focus, i really enjoy this shot. probably one of my favorites that i've taken in quite awhile.
Something about the PP feels off. Not sure if it's me, but it almost has that 'look' like you've turned the highlights/whites slider in lightroom all the way (or pretty far) down.
[editline]27th August 2012[/editline]
Or something. I can't put my finger on it. Maybe I'm crazy.
I thought "take b/w pictures of your moms backgarden " was already hint enough NOT to post those, b/w or coloured.

the brightest part of the highlights doesn't reach actual white is my guess
I'm not really a fan of these 'collages' so to say, but even so, the thing that bothers me is that it's a bit messy. The model you have there is very busy. On top of that, it doesn't have big, recognizable lines like a human body has but instead it has lots of small lines. It's not immediately obvious as to what part you are looking at. The pictures themselves look nice and clean though
Thank you for your feed back. :) I actually didnt expect any body to critique it but this is a lovely surprise!

He has eye color issues :(
Couple of B&W Street shots. These are the first black and white shots i've done and CC would be greatly appreciated.

Try the same A4 format on the second white-on-black image. I prefer how clean the logo looks on white.
Also, the stroking is like maybe 0.5 mm(?) too thick.
[editline]27th August 2012[/editline]
One problem with the first image is that the date is obscured by the clock's thicker arm. I also feel that the reflection is too bright, the surface looks a bit dirty and it almost looks like the clock is made out of cheap plastic or something.
All in all, I find that the second image is a lot better. It's got a better perspective, is cleaner and more professional looking.

plus, i like the use of negative space in the second.
Also, is that a reflection you made with the brush tool in the first one?
this:

No, it kinda just happened, I also think the stroke is a little too thick.
I just took out the stroke and made the font black like the Breitling logo. Looks way better. Updated in my first post.
Another thing. I think you could straighten the image a bit. To me it almost looks like it's leaning too much to the right

edit:
you made the font black, looks great :)
The first one? Also yeah I don't know how that happened, to be honest.
I almost couldn't see the difference until I took it into photoshop and compared the two. I'll do that right now, thanks Mooe! :zoid:

Did you edit your first post? If you did i like the second one now! I wasn't keen on that stroke font on the original.
Could anyone give me some cc on my portraits posted above?

Yeah, I edited the second one, made it a solid font now. Thanks for your input man!
DoubleDD, I love that first shot, it's got really nice contrast. The second one just seems too bright for my liking, I think it's a personal preference thing. But I like them both, just the first one more.

Yes?
First one it's kind of messy in terms of the subject mixing in with the background, I feel like it would be better if it was in color so the subject "popped".
The second one I really like, but I am a sucker for full body shots like this. I like how not only is the girl in focus but some tree near the top is as well, then the shrubbery slowly kind of fades out of focus as the they are placed further from the subject. Helps place the subject in the scene rather than just have them pasted into it if that makes sense. So good job on that.
There are some blown out highlights in the foreground trees that I can see, I know it's a little difficult to fix but that's pretty much my main gripe about the image. Something I also struggle to avoid.

I see what bopie means by the PP seeing a bit off. But I really like the tones in this shot, I think the fact that the subject is slightly out of focus really puts the nail on the board. Reminds me of some recent works that were in the "Work That Inspires You" thread where the subjects were out of focus as well. I think the image would be nicer if that pole wasn't there perhaps, but at the same time I can't help but feel like it slightly adds to the depth of the image considering the out of focus-ness.

Get out that K-r and shoot with that mate. That is unless you don't have it anymore...
Thanks Duckie! And Adius I completely agree with you on the first one being too messy. I just couldn't really isolate my subject without having too masking her out and changing the exposure on the background. Thanks for the feedback guys, something that should be given more around these parts of the forum

Personally, I don't really like black and white images that are like these. I mean like these candid shots of people in the streets. I like black and white pictures with higher contrast and lots of texture. In the second one, my eyes don't really notice the runner until I actually search for him. He really blends into the store. The first one has a more distinct subject but I think the second one is more interesting.

Just because you're new doesn't mean that you can't give someone your opinion.
Black and white only works for me when the subject is very large or close in the picture.
Here's a a view from a streetcar in San Francisco and a panorama of Seattle from Kerry Park (Thanks Jaanus) from my summer road trip. I did the Panorama on the evening of the Fourth of July so if zoom into the skyline you can actually see some fireworks going off at sometime around midnight.
