I'm not a photographer at all but I like your guys work, but since I should post content here's a spider I took a picture of a while ago.

I wanted to do some HDR in the second one so you could actually see the moon but holy shit the clouds were moving at the speed of god damn light when I took these. Not exactly the best but I enjoyed taking them. What do you guys think?

Jelly that you went to India.
I'm back from Tofino, but I didn't get many great shots. It was really drab, and there was a slight fog so landscapes looked kind of bland. I only got 2 shots I really feel like uploading to Flickr. Also was disappointed to see a lot of underexposed shots that did not seem underexposed on my camera, and my 50mm wide open produced some poor results. I'll probably stick it on 2.8 from now on. Well; learning experiences I guess :v:
Learn to read histograms you must. space
That first shot is sweet.
That first shot is sweet.
Thanks. I didn't bring a tripod with me to Yellowstone so I bunched up my jacket and set my camera on it at an angle, and they turned out a lot better than I thought they would!
You're right; I've never payed much attention to it, and nice shots man
Yeah when you're in the dark everything looks super bright on the screen and when you're in bright sunlight everything looks darker than the final product really is. Even if you're in decent lighting conditions it's really a good thing to understand. Histograms in a nutshell: Pretend that every light value from pure black to pure white is represented by a bar on a graph. In the case of digital editing, the tonality or range of different values of light is divided up into 256 bars (it's just the number that ended up being used). The more of a certain value there is, in a picture, the taller the line is that corresponds to that light value. If I remember correctly, 0 represents pure black and 255 represents white. Pure black is represented by the left side of the histogram, and white on the right. In this histogram, there is a spike in the higher range of values nearer the whites, and a good amount of everything in between with not very many pure blacks at all.
I took this picture of a knife I bought with my little point-and-shoot. I apologize for the not-so-great quality, but it's the best my camera can do in low-light conditions. Opinions/tips?

(0-65535 for each RGB value instead of 0-255, no more banding in your gradients) If you're doing high quality prints this process matters a lot, but if you're only shooting to upload to the internet, not so much.
How did you get them space shots to be so still yet perfectly exposed?! why are the stars not trails?!
How did you get them space shots to be so still yet perfectly exposed?! why are the stars not trails?!
my guess is they went way out in the country so light pollution wouldn't be a factor
maybe, maybe.. but i took a 60" exposure straight up into the sky and everything was still but when i tried it again i couldnt replicate and only got streaks?!
1 studio lamp and an art department store room later iain by codenamecueball, on Flickr
Get a softbox.
we had two they melted not under my control sadly, the school won't buy new ones because some twat will do the exact same
I like it but the lighting seems very harsh, might look better softened?
I like it but the lighting seems very harsh, might look better softened?
we wanted to illuminate only half of his face and make it high contrasty
It doesn't really work.
maybe, maybe.. but i took a 60" exposure straight up into the sky and everything was still but when i tried it again i couldnt replicate and only got streaks?!
The wider angle your lens is, the less movement will be noticeable.
ahhh that will be why, one was taken at 14mm the other at ~450mm :)
It doesn't really work.
i should add that not having a softbox doesn't make my life easier and that it was what the task in the book we're asked to do weakly suggested but thank you for your opinion anyway i will relay it to my teacher who will remind me they got binned as melted piles of goo
[t]http://puu.sh/10My5[/t] Flamborough Head, overall I'm happy with the composition but I think it could do with a crop, I can't decide though. Any crits? Completely fucked me walking back up the steps after going down and taking some nice long exposures with my ND filter (which I'm still editing.)
Guys, a question I've been wondering, is the term "shot" used for photography too or is it only for filming?
