Framing was hard because the tower doesn't have any rails and I was using a 45mm equiv. I wanted to go wider but didn't want to fall 30 feet ;(
But thank you for the critiques I do agree about the tree, should have had him more right

May I ask how you brought out the skin so well? Did you just select her skin (color range?) then adjust the levels?
The whole area including her scarf and hair look lighter so I'd guess the adjustment brush in Lightroom
You're contributing a certain amount to the discussion. Won't say how much though.
well might as well elaborate then, it reminds me of some specific drug trips i've had, so while a lot of people hate that kind of bokeh or find it ugly, I kind of don't mind it because it reminds me of well, nature, cells, molecules, atoms, whatever, it reminds me of the way I saw the world while on said specific drug, the insights I had into the function of life and existence that are persistent with me to this day, and are also part of the reason as to why my religious views switched from heavily spiritual to heavily atheistic
I thought that by saying it was really "familiar" someone else might get it without it being a dead give away, I know I wasn't really contributing to the discussion, but that's because honestly, I didn't quite feel like saying "I like the bokeh because it reminds me of lsd" at the time, not that that really contributes much but I suppose that'd at least have made more sense
Looks like a brush. Clarity is upped for the hair too although taking a 3rd look the background got some clarity treatment too albeit not as noticeable because of dof.
It's a bit overdone on the left hand for my taste and I am not a big fan of the blueish darks but all in all the picture improved a lot.
Hm, it's also photoshop, not lightroom, look at her forehead.
Also the longer I look at her right eye the weirder it looks, I know it's the perspective but it looks like it's closed.
I took these today, it was quite a bit of fun. Let me know what you guys think.

The first one would look a lot nicer if the building didn't have clouds along it's left edge, which make it lose the pop it could have. But it's really just another generic building shot unfortunately. There's nothing that would make me go "wow" or want to look into it further than a quick glance.
I don't really have much to comment on with the second and the third.
The last one here has potential, but unfortunately the car's details are lost to blur. You either should've used a quicker shutter speed or panned with the car's motion. I understand it was probably one of those moments that took you by surprise and didn't allow for much prep time, but that's just how photography can be sometimes.
The overall framing of that shot could've been a little nicer if you'd shot just a moment earlier (or had been pointing a little more to the left). Would've looked neat with some lead room.
hey Austin personally i think his skin tones are too red, you fix them up and id like it a hell of a lot more.
May I ask how you brought out the skin so well? Did you just select her skin (color range?) then adjust the levels?
RAW, selectively brought up the blacks and shadows on the skin bits, then fixed up the tones

Couldn't be arsed to photosop. Negative clarity on her forehead

It is direct lighting at sunset, so I had to leave a little red

Anyways I think this is a great use of black and white, well done.

I like it, it adds kind of a weird vibe to the picture.
That's almost on the level of Ansel Adams. Shit's really cool, you captured the mood well
Thanks for the crits guys, I gotta do some actual photo only outings. Too many times its just little things I snap here and there.

Criticism welcome
It's kinda obvious that she doesn't know how to pose/stand. I think your model should try different poses, so maybe she could look away from the camera more, like in the second shot, or she could sit against a tree. Right now, all you've got are pictures where your model is looking straight at the camera(minus the 2nd picture) while she can't really think of a good way to stand. Atleast, that's how I see it.
1 and 2 are in my opinion the best. The first one has a kind of cheeky pose to it and I think this pose is the best out of all of them. The second is a different kind of picture in the way that she doesn't look at the camera and thus is less connected(?) to the viewer. In this way the pose is less important.
Picture wise they are pretty good. I like how you used backlighting in some pictures to create a nice and bright backdrop for your model. Compared to your first shot, your model is somewhat underexposed in the third shot. This is because the sun is almost directly behind her in the third shot and slightly from the side/behind in the first. I think the first shot is great because I like the pose, the lighting and the colors. Incorporating the branches to emphasize the shallow depth of field is also a nice touch.
All in all you have some nice shots there. You picked a good time of day to shoot and your pictures came out nice. I suggest you make your model try some different poses next time and maybe change framing. Instead of a wide shot, try medium shots or close-ups.
Hope this helps
its hard to critique these as you say you had a vision for them, but the visions seem confused. the first one, my eyes don't go to the well, they go to the flowers, then the light next to them. then i start to wonder, "what am i supposed to infer from this picture?" the well being out of focus makes it seems like its place in the picture was totally incidental. ultimately, the picture doesn't really say anything, and when you say your personal focus is on the well, i have to wonder why. if anything, the flowers and maybe the light are interesting, but without much support from the rest of the picture contents, don't do much to give significance to the shot. you can't rely on people to examine your picture for some hidden meaning that isn't there. that's where composition plays in. maybe have something more relevant to the well in the foreground, or vice versa with the flowers.
if you were going for eerie on that second set, i would strongly recommend considering lighting and surroundings in your composition. while you can sort of make out the gnome in the background, its existence is made even more confusing by the vibrant flowers you put in the foreground. the chains dont really add anything on their own, either. once again, two unrelated ideas wont result in one coherent message. that's why you have to think a little more about what it is exactly that you're trying to say/show with your picture. the second picture is arguably the best, but if you were going for eerie, you may want to rethink your approach. remember, as soon as people involve themselves in a picture, they're gonna want to be able to connect to your train of thought, and experience the emotions you felt when you considered taking that shot. most of the time, you'll know when the right picture presents itself to you, you just have to be looking for it, or let it find you. don't give up, you have the right idea, just keep trying. practicing helps you find your niche.
Thanks a whole lot. I guess the biggest hurdle for me is to try and visualise a picture before being post processed. It's hard to explain what I mean. Basically, if I see a really nice picture and go out and try and recreate the angles, the lighting etc, I'll take the shot, check the image and be disappointed that it's no where near what the reference picture looked like.
Also, the last two pictures I was in a rush so I had to take the pictures twice and be done with it.
Again, thanks for the CC!

Thanks for the crit! I agree I didn't really know how to make her pose look natural. Had a few I took that did but they didn't really come out. I left image 3 underexposed as I preferred the "dreamy" look it has, if you notice the subject is slightly out of focus in that image as well. I'm doing some more senior portraits today so I'll attempt to do a bit more in terms of posing.

No problem, and remember, the most important moment of getting the picture you want comes when you're looking through the viewfinder. This is your greatest opportunity to compose the picture exactly the way you want it. Don't focus as much on visualizing it the way you want it, as most of the time you'll be disappointed with the reality of the shot. Work with what you've got, part of the fun is the improvisation. Also make sure to give yourself plenty of exposure/capture everything you want to capture in the moment, because photoshop can only help you so much. Hindsight is 20/20, meaning don't give up until you're satisfied with at least one shot (take many shots just to be sure). You've got the visualizing part in check, just do what you can to make the actual picture express that idea.

As cool as it is I think the composition is way off because of the huge tree, you even missed most of the lightning on two of them because of it.
