I'm pretty impressed with this in-body IS. Shot at 1/30th and it's surprisingly sharp.
That's called film grain. That shot was straight off the scanner.
That doesn't make me notice it less.
That doesn't make me notice it less.
of course you notice FILM grain on a photo that was taken on FILM.
That doesn't make me notice it less.
The best way to not notice it would be to stop looking for problems in every photo he posts ;)
How does this look on your guys computers? My screen I am using is calibrated weird so it looks like it's not too "contrasty" and dark in terms of shadow.
it looks good. it's contrasty but not to the point where it's too much.
I wasn't too far off I guess: http://www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/72157625732987193/ Didn't see the grain as film grain, sorry my bad, but the grain is there and it is pretty heavy. Apperently flickr sharpens images. I knew that before but I never really looked for it. The grain is really quite noticeable. I don't know about film grain or certain types of film but isn't it more than usual? Bopie could you upload the picture to a different host for comparison? I'd really like to see how much influence flickr actually has. [editline]26th September 2012[/editline]
it looks good. it's contrasty but not to the point where it's too much.
The dark part to the right kinda influences the happy happy fun time sunshine feeling the rest of the picture provides, this could've been solved by framing her more to the right, it would also go well with where she looks but of course it's a really rare moment shot and unless you do studio there really is no way you could think of it while shooting so I guess the shot is good as it is and damn that is a healthy happy baby if I ever saw one.
That film is portra 800 i believe, which tends to be a little more grainer than other films. Live with it.
Didn't see the grain as film grain, sorry my bad, but the grain is there and it is pretty heavy. Apperently flickr sharpens images. Bopie could you upload the picture to a different host for comparison? I'd really like to see how much influence flickr actually has.
Certainly, sir - 54mb. This was at 1/15 at f/4 on 65mm. Probably 15-20 minutes before twilight, so you could pick up on some motion blur. You will notice artifacting where I lazily cleaned up some vignette. That is the highest speed Kodak pro color negative film ($10 a roll ). The grain is certainly present, but you'll be hard pressed to get good skin tones with cheaper high speed film - particularly straight out of the scanner (yes, I've cleaned up vignette and some larger dust, but haven't touched anything else). The thing about your theory is that flickr sharpening should be that apparent on other images, no? Though, I do suppose it could amplify the grain in a shot where it's already quite heavy. My only issue with your comment earlier was that it was as if you were chastising me for it, like the grain/'sharpening' was intentional or poor taste. Regardless, thank you for the input. Like you said, it's still there. [editline]26th September 2012[/editline]
these were all from a roll of that new poundland agfa film that replaced their kodak colorplus stock
Sick as sin.
Wasn't sure about posting this one. Colors are all natural, by the way. The sky was literally half magenta, half blue.
Been a while since I posted some stuff here. A fellow photographer and I were fortunate enough to be in the Hague for this ceremony (disbanding of our last 2 tank regiments, because we don't longer need them). We initially had other photography-related plans as you can see in the first 2 pictures, however, once we learned of the significance of the ceremony we decided to stick around and document it. We blended in with the journalists and were able to shoot alongside them, which provided for some great shots. i would just tone the blur down a bit, cool pic nonetheless
