That's what I was getting at. Restrictive ideas like these just limit your thinking.

I've seen so many good photos with dead center composition. Avoiding centered comps is really more a 'beginners tip' to get people to actually think about what they're doing, other than that it's bullshit.

i don't think i really make a conscious choice to use the rule of thirds anymore, though occasionally i look at pictures i took and realise that i've managed to apply it without realising. but yeah, just because someone says your pictures have to be a certain way doesn't automatically make it true.

i guess it's a little different if you're shooting for money, where people would expect certain things and elements to be (almost) always present, but if you're just shooting for yourself, nobody is stopping you from doing whatever the hell pleases you.

thanks for the feedback :) I agree they were all really underexposed and I tried to make it a bit better in post. My excuse is that I didn't want to go over 1600 ISO and didn't want a slow shutter speed because I was shooting freehand :(

no worries mate:) if you are steady enough i can usually slow down to about 1/10 and have no motion blur, can only shoot stable objects mind you
