The Creative Photography Thread v7 | The quickest way to make money at photography is to sell your c

Okay guys, I literally never posted here, but since my mom bought herself a better-than-average camera, I thought it would be cool if I learned about photography and such, today was my first take at it, and what better than lighting?
[t]http://i.imgur.com/Jw6jM.jpg[/t]
But really, are there any guides for beginners? What should I know about photography, not as a job, but as a hobby?
Also I must say I don't feel very welcome with that OP and a first page filled with nice photos :v: And since I haven't found a proper "ask stuff here" thread, I decided to ask this here. Thanks in advance guys. [sp]don't bash me[/sp]

I used this to learn the basics of it, but you really just got to get out and shoot. Keep trying new things, and learn some of the basic rules. Experiment in manual mode, and learn how settings correlate to eachother.

Your street shots are excellent as always, you get amazingly unique compositions
What is the secret to that sexy post process? It almost looks like film, but H4Z3Y your pictures are absolutely amazing, I trust that if I gave you a disposable camera you would still be capable of astonishing images just because of your composition.
Cheers for the kind words guys!
Yep I'm using my Bessa R2A w/ 35mm f2.8 lens, on Portra 400. But the gear is nothing really.
I was listening to a talk by Eric Kim and he was saying that the absolute best photos are incredible composition meets incredible subject. You can practise improving your comp anytime, anywhere, but you really have to hunt out the good subjects.
I think that's why I'm getting shots that I like out of my trip, because I've been practising the comp regularly, and then having a vast range of new and interesting subjects to sink my teeth into.

Wow.
Great job on this one.
Sorry kids, I guess I value safety and peace of mind over hipness and a 50g weight loss.

nice. definitely like that second one, the smoke and weird lighting bubble are pretty cool
Bad photography cannot be justified by pretty models, but whatevs. Did a shoot for a friend today.

I like how sharp that tree is and how the nice colour makes it stand out from everything else in the photo. It's just too bad the weather wasn't working with you (as in lighting). I really like the processing though.

Should've done a "Cafe" scene to be honest. If you wouldn't tell me I couldn't guess 70's Paris for the life of me.
