I flip most of my selfies, I like seeing them how I see myself in the mirror, but I usually have an asymmetrical haircut so that's why
But the brightening is really sweet nice job doing that
I read that is the main reason that people usually dislike photos of themselves. Because it looks flipped compared to what they see in the mirror every morning. That's also the reason that your friends always will be like: "Dude, that's how you look."
I flip because it can change the way the photo is 'read' by the viewer.
Yeah, I always shoot RAW, there is so much more data to play with.
Some more snaps.

The first one I think needs a little 'extra' to make it interesting. Probably a different pose would help.
2 is good on a technical level. Very clean, good focus, nice angle.
3 is too cluttered. Portraits need to have some focus - I think the background is too distracting. That and the face needs more light - it's too much in shadow while the focus is on his hands. If you brought the same level of highlight to his face then it'd work, while blurring the background
Damn, its been a while since I last posted here but here are a few messing around shots for Halloween.

I had only the kit lens, so the second shot actually amazed me in the focus. The third one was also affected by the kit lens and the lack of a large aperture.

Not happy with these at all, though it might be because I left all my nice lenses at home. Westfest 2012.

How come many people here gray their blacks?
It's just a personal opinion, but I think it takes away a lot of the feeling a picture can project when you flatten values and have less contrast like that. I love contrast, and a full grayscale from black to white. I think studying Ansel Adams´ contrasts are a great way to get them right too. Otherwise the pictures just reminds me of something flushed out filtered I'd seen on Instagram or something.

Because it's ~artistic~. I don't know, some times it looks off, but at other times it looks really neat.
EDIT: Missed a word.

it works if it's intended, to emphasize a particular mood about the picture. sometimes it's more interesting than full contrast, catches the eye

these two are amazing. The first one is just beautiful, it's idea is obviously done to death but somehow I look at it and see originality.
im not going to lie, i don't understand what you see in the first, the second is decent but i find the first really bland
It's the simplicity of it, the spacing of the lights between the black, the moon lost in the negative space.
I can't get behind the idea of saying it's bland, that makes no sense to me, though we all see art differently I guess.
Not as fancy as everything posted here but...
