A 7D isn't exactly a low-light wonder too
Agreed, but it's the best camera I can afford and its 100x better in low light than the d3000
Agreed, but it's the best camera I can afford and its 100x better in low light than the d3000
The $400 nex 5n has better lowlight performance than the 7D.
*removed because I don't like them
The $400 nex 5n has better lowlight performance than the 7D.
Ah, but I can get the 7d for the same price as the nex 5n. I had harsh light so it was either the sky or the ground badly exposed. I chose the sky because the colors look much better this way and I kinda dig the whole 'loadsa light flowing in. But thanks! (by the way, these are panorama's made from .jpg's so I might be able to get more detail out of the sky if I used the .raw files instead.)
More football
I hate this sport with all I am, but photographs of it are always amazingly dramatic and interesting. Nice shots. My advice would be try experimenting with a long focal length to get really close to the action.

went on a trail ride out to an old mining town, wasn't all that much left there. the journey was the most fun part, and i think the caves had natural gas leaks so we didn't venture too far in, but had a swell time overall. mostly took film pictures, but was happy with these ones

probably not interesting to anyone, but here's some photos I took for an essay about man ray. Just wanted to contribute something, back in the day I posted photos on here so often and now nobody remembers me :v: untitled by Angus R Christie, on Flickr untitled by Angus R Christie, on Flickr they kinda got fucked up after I developed them I hang them to dry and someone pushed them about causing them to collide with another persons drying roll. (plus the grime spots from it being heat dried rather than drip dried)
thanks! i was remembering your cave images for a while back, while trying to go for that orange to blue gradient thing blaze has been posting recently. put that one in my portfolio, not something i do very often

Cooked up my own recipe today and took a pic of it. I probably messed up a lot with the angles since I took it in a rush, but I love the coloring I did with the picture.
eh, not much to mess up as far as angles go, unless you didnt properly capture the most interesting side of the subject. i think you passed, though. i like the coloring, too, but id say it could benefit from just slightly less blue/purple. try keep it cool without majorly changing the more important colors. composition also leaves a lot to be desired, as 50% of the picture has nothing to do with the rest of the picture. try to get that down to 25% or or less next time. that pasta looks damn good, it deserves the attention ;)
Yeah, I knew it wasn't the greatest, I just tried to make it look as appealing as possible to someone really quick. The emptiness of the top really ruined it, which is why I felt I could have done a lot more. Taking pics of food isn't my specialty.
learn from your mistakes and you could make it just ONE of your many specialties
True, I'm more used to portraits of people though. I haven't done food too much because it's really easy to get too much empty space, but I'll definitely practice food a lot more in the near future. [editline]13th November 2012[/editline] Would be pretty cool to get to the point where I can make a McDonald's burger look really good. :v:
well, that's all makeup (yes, food makeup) and specific preparation. i challenge you to make a regular looking meal (bonus points if it's a mcdonalds burger) look appetizing/beautiful. it's almost always doable, but sometimes you need more to work with than just the food itself, whether its the plate/bowl the food is on, the dispersion and positioning of the food (tweaked with composition and angle), lighting, and surroundings. you'll notice a lot of ads using white backgrounds/settings, or relatively dark, less interesting settings. in fact, a white plate can be used to isolate the subject really smoothly. if the background isn't distracting, the meal is interesting enough, and the composition create the mood you're looking for, you'll be surprised at the results. of course, in some cases, your picture is about as interesting the subject itself, but there's always room for creativity. try some stuff out, go beyond your comfort zone. you might get some really cool results (which you should post here).
