thanks. im working on re-editing it in raw, not fully satisfied with how the last one came out [editline]3rd December 2012[/editline] or maybe i should just leave it. fuck idk
Took my camera out for the first time at night, I was pretty impressed with how it well it went with the nifty 50 on it. [IMG_THUMB]http://www.filedump.net/dumped/final11354550728.jpg[/IMG_THUMB] [IMG_THUMB]http://www.filedump.net/dumped/final21354550729.jpg[/IMG_THUMB] not really as visually appealing as anyone else's photos, but this was a project I did for uni, we had to take a photo a week for 7 weeks (http://www.7000words.com/) My idea was an indirect portrait, taking photos of peoples shoes and getting them to write something on the polaroid, an emotion, thought, feeling or anything. each image was displayed side by side (this is just them scanned in)

I think that it would have turned out better a bit closer up and more focused on the smaller more intimate area before you rather than the city: Made dark by the internets
I disagree entirely, because one of the best things about the photo is the light from the windows in the darkness. Cropping it you lose that.
SonofBrim;38683258']Just recently got my first DSLR (Nikon D3200), and took a bunch of shots on a trip to New York City today. I am a complete beginner, but I do think these turned out nice. (These are just a few out of around 50) The bottom two are portrait-like practices of myself (left) and a friend. I also took a shot at removing blemishes/all around improving our looks :v:
they're all 16:9 ratio, is that intentional?
they're all 16:9 ratio, is that intentional?
Yes, I am using the top two as desktop backgrounds, and all of them are cropped in one way or another (the D3200 is a 24mp camera. Ridiculous, but useful). I don't know what aspect ratio is standard for portrait or landscape photos, so I went with 16:9. I've still got the originals, if anybody would like to see them.

For medium format cameras they have many kinds but most often just 1:1 16:9 is more of a video format, but even then movies and stuff is usually some anamorphic 2.3111:1 or something.

Ace work Tom, you're improving heaps every set. [editline]4th December 2012[/editline] Shit didn't mean to page king, gotta content - the rest I didn't post.
SonofBrim;38695586']I am a big fan of nice, wide images. Is there any reason that wide aspect ratios, i.e. 2:1, are bad for photos? (excluding prints)
well they are a bit bad since the sensor isn't formatted to that size. so by cropping it to 2:1 it's losing the tops of 3:2, so it's not ACTUALLY any wider than when you take the image, it is just discarding from the top and sides. so i typically don't recommend cropping like that as it is reducing the effective area of your sensor.
Ace work Tom, you're improving heaps every set.
As are you.

I was at my biggest shoot yet, yesterday. I had to film as the first cameraman, and I was in charge of 3 other photographers. I haven't actually had the time to load the pics into the computer yet, but here's some phone shots I took! It was a good day! I'll show you guys some results when they're ready. Need some opinions on which version is the best. 1: 2: 3: 4:
1/3 - it just doesn't 'work' 2 - is the best because it defines the crevices in the cork. 4 - is terrible for the subject.
i like 3 most [editline]4th December 2012[/editline] 2 just feels too contrasty
Depends on what you want to use it for. For esthetics alone I'd go for 1 but 3 would be perfect for one of those "guess what it is" riddles.
3
Personal preference is 3, and it seems MOST of you agree. Thanks guys :)
Been experimenting over the weekend with liquid, lighting, and a fast shutter. [t]http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/1752/photo1online.jpg[/t] [t]http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/3070/photo2online.jpg[/t] The second one is a bit more processed than I usually go for (though surprisingly not that far off from reality), but I actually liked the look of it here. The "halo" effect outlining the stream of orange juice is a bit frustrating, but I haven't been able to cleanly edit it out in Lightroom.
very cool. composition could be a little better on the second but i like the feel of both.
Yeah, the orange juice shot was a legitimate pain in the ass to get right, and I'm still not totally happy with it. If I were to attempt it again, and I might, I would probably pull back a bit so the glass is less centered.
it's cool, still a solid shot. you could even crop it down if you wanted
The only thing that really bothers me is the glass distorting the stream. It just looks fake that way I guess
i noticed that too. pretty trippy bro
The only thing that really bothers me is the glass distorting the stream. It just looks fake that way I guess
Oddly enough, that's one of the reasons I like it so much. It's not something you normally see in a "liquid being poured into a glass" picture, plus it makes the orange juice look a little like those cartoon lightning bolts. That's my own bias though.
