I think these few shots show a nice range from the minolta
still got a pentax and a zenit to try out, can't wait starting to love film
I kind of liked this shot.

Okay, the subject himself is great. I dont know if this is posed or candid but it has a very candid feel to it. The focus is slightly off but I like that, adds to the candid feels. The subject initially draws your eye when the focusing draws your eyes to the stairs. The angle it is shot at helps do this too.

It's just a shot he snapped of a friend let's not pretend it's more(or less) I'd like to remind you that we had some discussion about posting all kinds of common pictures in here and it was not nice and ended in "what is creative" and that stuff
It doesn't matter whether he meant to do any of the things I mentioned, that is what I see and get from the shot.
it's not like a photo needs to have some sort of deep meaning behind it to be aesthetically pleasing
neither does the lack of deep meaning or message imply a lack of thought when taking the photo

Shorts are a bit too short. You also might want to think again about drinking that beer. You seem to have a decent body, don't want that to turn to a beer belly.

I don't really like replying to crit, but there's a few things worth noting:
a) This is not me
b) Those shorts iirc have a 9-10" inseam, I personally wear 5" inseam shorts and am significantly taller so suss that if you want to see shorts that are too short.
c) It's cider
d) He is Vice BO$$ of Boats at school and competitively cycles, chance of a beer belly = unlikely.

The shot took about 3 minutes to set up and take, while fast it was methodical and certainly not candid. I am glad that it still retained enough personality to convince you that it actually was candid.
