Tonight I went for more of almost too far scene. I had an incredibly rough day (Fired from my job due to literally no reason, almost hit by another car on the way home, a lady shop-lifting threw her pop at me). I believe these pictures show that decently.
I noticed the little bit of the chair in the 1st picture afterwards, but I believe it adds to it, as it's almost like I fell onto my knees in-front of someone and begged for forgiveness.

To analyze your work in such a way for us doesn't really do much for it. A photo should tell its own story without the photographer having to explain everything in detail.
The first really doesn't send any sort of clear message. It's a straight on portrait of yourself with tape on your mouth, but there's no context or clear thought process to provoke a reaction. I'd venture to say it would easily be more effective without the tape altogether as the tape really just sort of confuses the image rather than add to it.
Also no one is going to see that little line of a chair leg and thing "CHAIR, HE MUST HAVE FALLEN FROM IT". You're trying to hard to give meaning to your works after the thought of taking the image.
My advice is to take a break from self-portraiture and explore other subjects to train yourself in composition.
I guess I get the idea in my head, and I cannot play it out in the way I wanted.
Tape -> No one listening to me, therefor why should I be able to speak.
Down begging -> Wanting, but since no-one listening, cannot have
Sad eyes -> Due to begging
That was the literal thought process that went through my mind before I took that picture. A few of my friends came to the same conclusion when I showed them it, without explaining. I do explore other things such as automotive, just I don't pull those shots off the SD card for another 16 days. Im trying to let myself learn how to get the shot right quickly, and not chimp on pictures. So, Im only checking the card once a month. I use this other card for night times when I'm extremely bored.

self-portrait without a cat.
edit: also, still having fun with the film scratch/dust overlay idea.

I really like the tones you have going on in this image. Do you have the original SOOC that I could possibly see?

before/after
Before is way better.
All the original needed was the straightening and distortion fix.
Back in September last year I bought a cheap digital camera. I was interested in shooting some photos outside.
This one in my opinion is the nicest one...

I'm pretty new to photography and the main problem is I can't find anything interesting that I should shoot.
Also I'm kinda disappointed that the camera doesn't have customizable aperture and shutter speed.

Basic leading lines of the path and trees, framing could use some help, main problem is that it's just a picture of a scenic path, no real focus etc.

Might be your monitor then, mine is calibrated and the second one looks TOO bright if anything.

Hmm, come to think of it, most of the other photos in the thread (and photography in general) are more like focused on something.
Thanks for the criticism, appreciate that.

I can't make out half the details on his face in the second one.

I personally like the second one in terms of tones on the walls etc, but I think that the face could definitely be a bit less exposed like the original. I like the high key look.

alright, messed around with the tones/exposure of the edit, and used the burn tool(?) in photoshop to bring down some of the lighting on my face a bit. can't remember if it was the burn tool or not.
Much better my friend.
More stupid shit from me.

I picked up my first digital camera yesterday, the workflow of being able to upload in a few hours blows my mind.
Anyway, here's a shot from last night

Re-edit of an older shot. Tried a film overlay too so don't hate
And just for comparison, here is the original edit I did back on September 1st, 2012

congrats on the x-e1, nice! what lens did you get with it? they are releasing a 24mm f1.4 soon, sounds like it's going to be quite the performer. and you should scoop up the leica adapter and use your voigtlander lenses on it, that's where mirrorless fun comes from
