[t]http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8499/8431291743_6c87b3475c_h.jpg[/t] I'm fairly new to photography. I really don't know what the fuck I'm doing at all, I went out and took a bunch of pictures but almost all are blurry and or under/over exposed. However I think this one turned out alright. What do you guys think? Anything I could have done better? I'm really trying to focus on improving.
Manual Focus for moving objects, and night objects. Auto for everything else, unless you're proficient enough to use manual for everything. Use an ISO of about 800-3200, 1/8- 0"8 sec shutter, and low aperature for night photography. For daylight, ISO can be 100-800 and it'll look fine, shutter speed can be variable (The higher the speed, say 1/200 means a lot less motion blur, but a darker image), and high aperature, unless you want a thin depth of field (Background blur). Another extremely important thing, shoot in RAW. One day you'll want to go back and edit your older photos, and Jpeg sucks for editing, I'm regretting a lot of my older stuff not being in raw right now. One last thing, practice. These things never come out right first time, it takes quite a bit of practice but you'll see a massive improvement if you keep going and learning for a few months. [t]http://puu.sh/1VnS5[/t] Keep this with you, it's incredibly useful. As for your photo, very underexposed, and the subject isn't clear, but it's a start and a good one at that.

Thanks for the feedback. What you guys have said has been very helpful, and motivates me to go out and experiment more. Hopefully I will have something better to show next time.

I'm not touching lomo film for a while. Is there a way to get the yellows out, while not making it completely overexposed looking? try the colour balance tool in PS
try the colour balance tool in PS
worked wonders. The highlights looked like they were soaked in piss. Still not 100% though. "hey I'll just make it yellowish" doesn't work. What do you want? Give it a summer-like feel? And within that: hot and sweaty or calm and relaxing? That's where you should get your editing direction from.

Maybe try using an ND filter and long exposure next time to see how extreme you can get the trails, because I can imagine that would look really cool.
He's using an nd to stop sparks from damaging the front element u tard
Okay but a more extreme ND would allow for some long exposure while also keeping the shallow depth of field, it would look pretty awesome no doubt.
Okay but a more extreme ND would allow for some long exposure while also keeping the shallow depth of field, it would look pretty awesome no doubt.
It would look typical long exposure light trails and be not as sharp. You can't expect the guy to hold perfectly still. The way he shot it would look better, imo. Gives a nicer bokeh effect and a greater sense of movement in the sparks.
I've been in my darkroom for about 3 months straight and I thought I'd upload some of my favourites from that time. I just need to buy a film to digital converter.
round these parts we call one of them doo hickeys a 'scanner'

i thought the exact same thing, but had no idea how to word it haha
These are the results from my first ever roll of transparency film. There's something real magic about holding a positive up to the light and seeing how it came out.
