Had my nex-5 with me today, took some pics. I still need to get used to it though. After i got back home I realized I had been shooting at ISO 1600 the whole time. No wonder I had to use shutter speeds of 1/4000 to get a proper exposure... I have my 3 on WB, color profiles, and ISO. Then the lower custom button is HDR.
What's with the weird noise? It's so...er...what's the word...regular? pattern-ish ? Ace focus though. [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] Curious about the background here. How?
It is literally a creased bedsheet over a table with the sheet going up to a small cardboard box. I put my flash behind a small disused fishtank on full power with an optical trigger and pointed it at the bedsheet to overexpose it to full white. I then just changed the white to a blue in photoshop.
I did it the opposite way, my sheet was baby-blue and I changed it to white. I didn't have a fishtank though, used a vase , focusing was a bitch.

And I also recommend rule of thirds grid, it works as a good way to make sure your lines are straight. Usually on my nex I leave the ISO on auto, the camera is good about keeping it down as necessary. Also if you haven't I would also turn off auto review, it isn't really useful because it never looks much different than before and it kind of slows down operation.
Can't wait for a day off so I can get some new shots as opposed to editing old work.

Went out a few nights ago to try to get a couple night shots and discovered two things. 1: 18mm isn't really wide enough 2: light pollution. Kind of hard to define the structures in the first and second. I feel like they would be better without them. The third one looks nice though.

But I end up shooting in RAW regardless, which can be easily changed in Photoshop, and If I'm bothered, lightroom. I was wondering, maybe a CPL, or ND filter.

[t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6643010/IMG_0084.jpg[/t] Was looking at a few of my older photos, and they look like they could have been great if I had taken them in raw format so I can readjust the exposure, or at least knew what I was doing. They're all either over exposed, under exposed, have a shitty low f stop, or need a UV filter. [editline]14th February 2013[/editline] [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6643010/IMG_0107.JPG[/t] Example of what I'm talking about. You have the ideal subject and lovely colours, but it's missing something. It correctly wouldn't work zoomed out, but it would look more appealing (to me) with it zoomed it, losing a lot of the background pavement and making it more abstract would offer some focus.

Focus is a tad too far in the back but the rest really does transport a certain mood of work. I like it a lot.
