I am always scared to take pictures of random people. Here in europe everybody seems to be paranoid about cameras. I wish you could just walk around and snap pictures of strangers without them caring like you see Kai from Digital Rev TV doing.
I've got people shouting and cursing at me when I first tried to do some street that scared me a little(lot), living in an area infamous for everyone and his mother being a member of the Stasi 20 years ago doesn't help either. Everyone 30+ reacts kinda alergic to random cameras, it's hard to get that shit out of people.
Malaysia was really different. People just held their hands in front of their faces, I think it's some religious stuff, so I always didn't fire the cam and took it down with big gestures of "I took no picture"
That's sort of inherent with having an observational medium. I've been toying with some quasi-street type shooting.
That's the TA for a class I'm taking where we get taken around downtown LA to un-layer the way history gets covered up and erased in a place so focused on the spotlight of 'now'. There's some crazy shit that went down in the most mundane areas. There aren't any plaques or memorials for all of these huge atrocities, everything gets cleaned up and forgotten about.
I wish it was at least a little bit the other way around here, people stick to their history and see it through some "everything was better in socialism" filter yet they ignore the thousands of ruined rundown old buildings from pre 1950's that the stupid socialists deemed too bourgeoise to keep yet too we-have-no-balls-to-touch-it-man-that-shit-has-history to tear down.
Only in the last 5 to 10 years some people with sense took action and SOME places got really really nice while preserving the old chic but look what's that oh it's life, reactions: "Well yeah if it wasn't for the GDR it wouldn't even stand anymore" No you miss-educated fuck this building was actually strong enough to withstand 70 years of not-caring.

If you people wish for pictures of mundane 1890's to 1930's city buildings I could make it a little project, I think it would be especially interesting for the US people.
I'm US, and I think it sounds interesting. Do it! :D

For me, i know someone is getting enjoyment out of it, much like i do. So i really don't mind when someone wishes to take my photo, consentually or not.
