[QUOTE=bree;34924217]not sure if it's just me, but i think your links are broken fauxpark.[/QUOTE]
Yeah sorry, I forgot to preview before posting, and I had no idea how to embed flickr images. Found the BBCode though, all's well :P
[QUOTE=fauxpark;34924206][B]Bought myself a 550D, went out shooting around the nearby bushland and streets of suburban Sydney the other day.[/B] Pretty new to this, so I'd appreciate some advice on what/what not to do :v: Most of these shots are pictures of plants since that's pretty much all there is around here. Plus, right now I don't really "get" composition, but it should come to me in time.
[/QUOTE]
I like how natural and uneventful that sentence sounds
Good pictures, liking that last one, with the little bokeh dots and everything.
Composition is basically pick a subject, and find a way to make that subject and the background do what you want. Choose if you want to blend the subject with the background, or make it "pop out".
Also, look up rule of thirds, learn it, then break the shit out of it.
edit: Have you tried flowers
or roadsigns
It [I]was[/I] uneventful, for the most part. I would have gone further into the bush track, as was my original plan, but there was a giant St. Andrew's Cross spider in the way. On my way back I saw another one equally large, part of its web was smack bang in the middle of the path, no idea how I didn't run into it. It was too high up for me to get a good look at it with my puny kit lens though :(
And yes, I do know the rule of thirds but it's proven a little hard to use with such boring subject matter. I need something that isn't green.
[QUOTE=ctlilc;34924237]I see the pictures and the links to flickr work
also have a plant:

That out-of-focus leaf puts me off
Hey Blaze and Bopie, can I request you two to shoot something once that isn't yourself? just to see what comes out, cause I'm seeing only self portraits and I'd like to see something else once in awhile, no offense.
The last picture bopie posted wasn't a self portrait.

[QUOTE=squish;34921461]First thing that popped into my head was "cool story bro".
Great shots! :)[/QUOTE]
[QUOTE=Edthefirst;34921795]Oh man that is one of the coolest shots posted here. Such a great shot.[/QUOTE]
[QUOTE=latin_geek;34923667]Just went in here to say that.
Amazing shot, Wumbo.[/QUOTE]
Thank you guys so much.
I think it was more of a "stop shooting SO MANY portraits" instead of "shoot at least one picture that isn't a portrait"
Don't get me wrong, I love both your and Bopie's selfportraits, but I haven't seen much else from you guys lately.
I still don't get it.
[QUOTE=GuruLongie;34910165]Holy smokes. That's grand!
2nd, 4th and 5th are best in my opinion. Especially the 5th, dem colours, dat DoF.
Good work![/QUOTE]
[QUOTE=Him1411;34910518]Leff shoo, those photos have such atmosphere. Looks like a place that i'd really like to visit actually! really good colours and tone, well done![/QUOTE]
Thanks guys, it was nice to finally be able to go somewhere here in Okinawa.
I re-edited the first one too, the horizon was a little crooked and I just kinda rushed the processing. I think this looks better.

Thanks for this brand new advice dude! I appreciate it. It honestly has [url=http://ionlytakeselfportraits.tumblr.com/]never occurred[/url] to me to take a picture without me in it. Just never had the clarity to think of it myself I suppose.

I know I can't hear how that was meant, when it was written. It came out in an angry sarcastic way in my head anyway..
The guy just hasn't seen anything else than self portraits that you guys did, and you both do make a lot of those. Most of us know that it is easier and more comfortable for you guys (meaning that it is not because it's the only thing you CAN), but he might not.

they're not particularly great because they're just in my garden but I think the lens works pretty well despite the corrective glass in the adapter

That's a compliment. A very good one too. I like when pictures make people think of scenes in their heads.

Swell.
The bokeh looks pretty ... jiggly to me so maybe it's a bit better for "action" shots. Maybe?

Is this that preset you mentioned earlier? Either way I'm not a fan of the processing. Do it more like you have been with [url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/62400225@N04/6885596761/]this[/url] for example.
Did some evening photography. Can't say I'm too happy with them, especially because I had to do some filter-working to make it not look so dark.

you can go for a filmy effect, but those pictures just look like your front element is super hazy or dirty
