how can you guys say the 'film look' isn't amazing?! this shot isn't anything special at all, but the film look makes it pretty nice
I hate quoting myself, especially when it was already said in response to you, but it'll help me save time making the same point again.
Yes your taste will diversify as you expand your photographic... worldview (I guess, not sure how to put it) beyond this forum. Also the more exposure you have to the oh-so-beaten-to-death 'film look' (or better yet, shoot enough film yourself), you'll notice a lot of it falls pretty short and actually looks horrible. A good chunk of the 'film look' is more of a caricature of real film, or simply an interpretation of what other people are doing.

I'll save you the stock responses about how PP won't save a bad photo and you need a good shot in the first place, etc.
This is where the interpretation thing I mentioned comes in. You slap on this 'style' and suddenly the image looks like a good one. Much in the way that HDR is frequently used to make pictures look like whatever inspires them.
People get hooked on a few surface aspects of images that inspire them, and in-turn spit out simplified versions of the original inspiration - neglecting the more important things and/or the finer details that get looked over.
[editline]12th February 2012[/editline]
Even worse is when the inspiration is already a watered down version of an even 'higher' original inspiration. It becomes sort of like a game of telephone.

It's been two months apparently. Got a 50 1.4 recently, performs noticeably better than the 1.8, not to mention the better build quality and usability.
Anyways I made this for a photography assignment, pardon the sloppy painting, the cheap brush I found was way too soft for the job.

Holy Jesus my mum has agreed to let me get a motorbike if I can buy it!
OMFG YES!
Decided to put a roll of film twice through the camera, finally got it developed today. Turned out the two times are misaligned by one sprocket hole, so all the images ended up overlapping. ughfghrgh
And most look terrible anyway. In fact the (relatively) nicest ones turned out to be the ones that I skipped so they weren't double. Oh well.
Seems quite cropped but this is exactly what i pictured in my mind! really well done man, looks great!!
It's actually not cropped at all, I just couldn't put my tripod as far back as I wanted to, since theres a road about 2 meters from the stone
[editline]8th March 2012[/editline]
Also, backstory time!
The shape and size of the Hovlanda stone is partly due to that it under the 1800s was used as a hearth in a forge in Hammarö. According to a legend the smith suffered from horrible dreams at night and while haunted by severe remorse he put the stone back in its old place at Hovlanda.
History is fucking great
Makes it look haunted..

Thank you! That day I was very much in the mindset of trying to capture the best photojournalism-esque photos. I even convinced a police officer to let me past the pedestrian line by saying I was a freelance photographer. :v:

Glowstick fluid actually, it was a rather long exposure, in real life it's nowhere near that bright. And as well, if anyone in the thread wants to try something similar, be very careful. If you leave it on for a while it starts to itch a good deal, and there are going to be very small pieces of glass in the liquid which will be very difficult to see. I was using a paintbrush to apply it to the floor and my hand so I had to be very careful that I wasn't brushing shards of skin irritating glass into my hand.

I still think your photography is under appreciated around here, you have brilliant ideas with lighting and framing, and you are able to execute them frequently. Love your work as always, this one is a highlight of the project for me.

I really do like Blaze's photos but recently his digital seems to be self portraits with shallow depth of field. I wish he did more stuff of his friends or went exploring with his camera like he does with film. I really love his portrait work which is amazing, but sometimes you need to step out of your comfort zone.

meh i know most are of me recently, I've just had and still have loads of uni deadlines so haven't had the chance to take more adventurous stuff. I try to get ahold of one of my friends for my photos as often as i can. And all my film stuff recently I've had my digital with me also, but i prefer (mostly) film for candid stuff and digital for planned stuff. Also i was out of my comfort zone last week as i was in a studio environment and did a lot of stuff that wasn't my style.
i'd like to go out with friends exploring more but the opportunities never arise round here really.
I don't think I'll be posting a photo today. I lost a close friend, the one I posted picture up of not that long ago. I have no motivation for photography. The news has destroyed me and my family. Sorry.

Dude, you don't need to apologise to us.
Skip that last one word sentence.
Hope you and your family is okay.
