It's more haze than fog. Particles of dust and sand in the air which scatter the light. At long distances it reduces contrast as the light has to travel through more obstacles than at nearer distances.
But yes, thank you. I certainly think it adds to the pictures.
The last one was shot through the plane window which caused even more (you can see a reflection in the window slightly to the left of centre). It helped the image I think after I'd increased the contrast again.

been using my digital a lot more frequently. shot this with my 1.8 50mm, it's my good buddy. been attempting to get into portrait photography, but i can't help but feel that something is off with this image. any ideas or suggestions?
