As an American I never understood the joke behind "Keep Calm and Carry On". I heard the story that it was put on posters and put everywhere during some time of terror? Care to help me out?
I don't know actually. My guess is that it was a motivational poster during a war?

Here's another. I forgot how hard it is trying to get 3 people to sit still for 30 seconds at the same time.
You sure the "being high" thing didn't add to the difficulty of that
You're right in some respects, but I set my camera to take three photos on self-timer, once everybody gets in the zone, there's usually one take that works out okay. I didn't make the camera obscura room with the intention of taking any photograph and I'm pretty happy with the photo considering my tripod doesn't work. The camera was balanced on a stool, with my phone and zippo to prop the lens up.
woah calm down trogdon I was just saying because of his earlier comment that people who are currently watching cars pass by upside down on a wall and are high on weed are probably not quite the most able to sit perfectly still for 30 seconds.
probably the favorite out of all of my first roll 16A by street-wizard, on Flickr [editline]20th March 2012[/editline]
You're right in some respects, but I set my camera to take three photos on self-timer, once everybody gets in the zone, there's usually one take that works out okay. Huzzah! Content! Finally! My uncle has a scanner that he showed me how to use. Didn't scanned the negative, scanned the photos at 1200 dpi. I'm resisting the urge to post them all(I'm pretty darn happy, first real roll of film and all). If you have the time(you being anyone) could you flick them through and tell me what's wrong/good? (besides being out of focus, white border due to bad scanning, and quality is slightly reduced because it's an old scanner/we fiddled with the setting and probably didn't choose proper ones). General tips would be lovely. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ef4ew.jpg[/img_thumb] I think this is the best photo of the bunch. I may set-up a flickr account once I make average quality photos at an average rate.
please explain how you made the camera, or just post a link that looks cool as shit
The concept is dead simple, a large-scale pinhole camera. Darken a room as best as you can (I've used three layers of black trash bags) and then let in a very small hole of light from outside. I suggest starting small and moving up incrementally. If you go too large, it will be out of focus, too small and you won't see much. It's hard to see the colors at first (the image looks more like a shadow) but as your eyes adjust you'll pick it up and it's really neat. Take a long exposure with a camera in the room, and you should see similar results to pick. [sub](The long exposure itself doesn't matter, the idea is capturing a small amount of light. You could do it with a huge aperture and sensitive film/sensor at normal shutter speeds)[/sub]
Also Bopie don't you need a little lens over the hole or something for it to work?
The hole is the 'lens'. You never made a pinhole camera as a kid?

I've been wanting to make one of those for a while, but I don't have any suitable windows unfortunately.

i really like the subtle UV reflection in that second picture. not the most interesting subject but the lighting is really cool
I don't know why you posted that one, IMO it was probably one of the the worst of the bunch (no offence) However the first one i actually have a real liking for. This one here;
Can you tell me why it's a bad picture or what makes a picture bad? Just a sentence is fine.
it's just not the most interesting subject. nothing is going on in the scene either, which doesn't help.
Is it fair to say a picture without a subject needs to be scenic?
I decided to try for my first self portrait that doesn't use a mirror and incorporates my 430ex II. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out; the lighting could have been better but for a first time of manually setting the flash I think it came out well enough. I do feel it was quite a bit underexposed in the portion of my face that mattered most; next time I'll do better. Sorry about the noise, I bumped up the brightness and exposure a tiny bit in post, but even with slight noise reduction some noise is a bit noticeable. I set my tripod and camera up at one corner of my room with a 50mm at f/2.8 and a shutterspeed of 1/60. Focusing was a bit of a pain, though using my LED TV connected to my camera made it easy to see exactly what the camera saw. I then used my remote to get just the right focus and took the shot on a 10 second delay.
Is it fair to say a picture without a subject needs to be scenic?
for a standalone photo scenic is a good idea. something you look at and really want others to see.
Everyone likes tons of wiring in pictures, right? Made this black and white because I really, really hate how colors look with this camera. Must be some setting I messed with, but it looks awful. Another shot of my first jump. This was shot during recovery after our 2nd flip out of the aircraft.

I think my cat hates cameras now. Criticism welcome... aside from subject matter.
I started incentivising my dog with treats, so now when she sees me with the camera she gets pretty excited.
I really like that picture of potatoes, with the proper cropping it looks like a stock/cuisine blog image. Natural daylight?
An off shot that I forgot about from Saturday's shoot, I was literally running off the tracks because a freight train had just come around the corner, I can't believe I gave the stool priority over the cam and tripod :v: Trying some hectic editing, thoughts?
Doesn't look like running at all :v Lovely lighting and colors.
