Does anyone else find inspiration hard to come by in their local area. I live on a peninsula that is bordered on 3 sides by water and is filled with boring ass houses and apartments.
can't you catch sunrise and sunset on the water? you should do both in a day
I think it's partially because you know your local area so well that we have trouble looking at it in new ways
always easier for me to take photos somewhere I havn't been before or havn't really explored because of that

I feel pretty much the same. I see all this stuff every day, so it just seems "boring" but when I go to different towns I am always impressed by the smallest things. (sadly, I often don't have my camera with me. )
I went out to the countryside a couple days ago, here's a few of the photos I thought were decent.

Love the red and blue here, and the powerlines/wire things too.

i would like you to re-edit the first one, because it really has potential. :)
How's this?

It's just the original overlaid at 50% opacity though, because I cannot for the life of me remember what curves settings I used for it, and it's pretty close to SOOC already. Not much else I can do with it since I was shooting JPEG.

Getting to know my Zeiss 18mm a little bit, first time out with it.
Sneaking suspicion that it's a cut out of Blaze superimposed. Haha.
I like the perspective you got there Salmon def. adds more interesting touch to the photo.

I like it, nice centering and interesting angle
I like it, nice centering and interesting angle
Thanks :) The angle is really a double edged sword for me, as while it creates an interesting gradient of foreground to background, it leads the viewer's eye (at least mine) out of the frame fairly quickly.
leads my eyes to the head, makes me wonder what he(is it you) is looking at
so in that sense it works for me, my eyes don't really get drawn too far out of the frame..
took me a while to notice the thing on his(your?) foot though, which is kinda clever I think

actually I think just dropping the vignette on that image would solve the colour issue, dunno why but just love vignette, clearly overdid it there though

135mm f/2
135? how far away did you have to position the camera for that shot blaze
135? how far away did you have to position the camera for that shot blaze
About 4 miles.
About 4 miles.
So it's more like a 1350mm than a 135mm! :v:
Quite convenient you can shoot from your bedroom while your subject is on location.
I love my 135mm but it only goes to f3.5
I want a 200mm so bad but I have no money to buy it with and can't pass it off as an investment since I'm not getting any money out of photography.
Seeing colorful birds and such made me feel terrible when my 55mm could only make them a tiny part of the picture.

Search for old lenses like M42 screw mount, buy an adapter and you saved yourself "lodsemone".
butbutbut, then I get no automatic/from-camera control over anything, do I?
but it's more fun that way
I've got a 135mm lens, I always use manual exposure, manual focus, it even has an aperture ring (love that, don't like the electronically controlled apertures)
no problem with automatic, just love having full control over my shots
butbutbut, then I get no automatic/from-camera control over anything, do I?
Manual exposure, manual focus.
You will learn much more going all manual.
I have never touched auto settings since I got my first DSLR, I got into SLR/DSLR cameras mainly because I wanted to be able to control everything.
If you stick with it you'll have no problems.
