Anyone have any tips for getting past public photography anxiety? I feel a little silly walking around with a camera in the rain taking pictures of people and such, it's amazing fun but I just can't get over how silly I must look, I don't have the confidence to not give a crap what others think, any advice? I'm subtle, just not particularly confident.
wear better clothes and don't look like a goon? there isn't some magic secret to it, but self confidence even in outwards appearance to begin with can help for sure. Just don't worry about them, remember that you'll probably never see any of those people ever again [editline]25th April 2012[/editline] the more you do it the less you'll worry about it, basically

It's just something you have to work at. The more you go out, the easier it becomes. Especially when you work on a tripod. Just try it, you won't regret it.
I don't look like a goon, dark jeans and pea coat mostly, it's England so I'm worried about all the yobs, wish I had a photography buddy. I'll go out once the battery recharges (no USB charging is a pain), see how it goes, cheers.
yeah having other people with you can help for sure I was joking about the don't look like a goon thing, just saying that being confident in yourself outwardly to begin with can help somewhat, still comes down to the more you do it though
Having someone with you can certainly help, but it also has downsides. Makes it harder to get those more intimate shots.
yeah i've noticed that, it's harder for me to take specific shots because i'm worried about either holding them up, or originality... on my own it's a lot easier to just go around taking photos of well, everything I think looks cool, but it feels like my ideas might be criticized with other people :P
Thanks for the replies, another quickie, are most cameras fit for rain use? Currently raining outside and I've just got it today, quite worried about something happening to it in the rain, might be best waiting but I'd love to shoot in wet conditions.
Trenchcoat, sunglasses and cheap cigarette is what you should go for. Kids love it.
Slow motion is pretty neat, it's a shame it has to go to 360p to do 200fps though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbT0XeaVS9E&feature=youtu.be Anyway, I'll stop polluting the thread with my novice bollocks, thanks for the help.
Spend minutes composing and taking pictures, "it looks pointandshoot-y" Take a random picture of a parrot at a really high ISO "oh god this is your best picture ever" I'm between happy and depressed right now you guys :v:

That shit looks like a still from Titanic or something, amazing.
is that a HDR?
Nice work on the colour, usually I use yellow/blue, never thought about this combination. Looks sexy. My only problem is that it's one of those where you think "wouldn't it look better in colour" but actually the colour adds nothing but distraction.
is that a HDR?
No it's just good old fucking about with colors in Photoshop.

Look, I had it on ISO 12800 on auto like an idiot, I had no idea what I was doing.
i'd rate you both funny but then i'd feel like i'm promoting mocking of fellow photographers
It may be best to master a shit camera before you buy a top of the range pro slr. IMO
