Does anyone mind answering a quick question? I'm getting to grips with my camera and I've figured "most" of it out, but the aperture size thingy (f-stop some call it) confuses me, according to reviews and such one of the better features regarding the X10 is the f2.0 aperture, so do I want to be shooting in f2.0 to get the most out of my pictures? So far I've been using aperture priority setting and clamping it at f2.0, then using the exposure compensation to compensate lighting, cheers! [editline]5th May 2012[/editline] Actually I think I've got it, I want to set the exposure first when I've determined what DOF I want, then set the shutter speed, ISO and exposure compensation around the aperture depending on the lighting.

If you're shooting handheld and the lens has no VR/IS function, you want to keep the aperture as high as possible (in your case f/2) so you can shoot at a faster shutter speed and therefore not have a shaky, blurry picture. When shooting a landscape or a scene in which you want the most depth of field possible, you should shoot in higher apertures (this is hard to put into words because the number goes up as the actual aperture diameter goes down) and lower speeds. Anything more than 1/30-1/40th of a second will require a tripod or other way to keep your camera steady. Also since your camera has digital zoom, might as well state that using it is a no-no in most if not all cases.

It says it has a digital zoom but I never figured out how to use it, I usually just use the optical (22-112mm lense) by twisting the lense if I can't frame the picture correctly or get closer.

Just stick with the optical.

I have noticed this effect on images taken with the Canon 50mm 1.2 L I can't decide whether I dislike this effect or whether it enhances the "full frame" kind of radial blur effect the lens produces. In this particular image they look outstanding and definitely help create that encompassing illusion. If only I was able to see how this image would look with say the Sigma series 50mm 1.4, the bokeh on that lens is much more "rounded"
Cheers yo. 35 1.4 on the 5D focused just short of infinity. all of the bokeh in that is intentional foreground clutter (leaves etc)

one more from me, but not sure entirely if I like it or not... I think there was some smudges or something on my lens causing a bit of excessive light glare, can't seem to edit around it a huge amount so I tried editing with it moreso IMGP8276.jpg by Inzalonus, on Flickr

I get more of a feel for your personality from these shots than anything you've posted in a long time. The first one is fantastic. I think it's really clever what you've done. And your dogs expression is amazing in the second. He/She looks like a champ - and the texture in the pine bush's leaves are really intriguing. That last shot isn't doing much for me though. Big Love Bopie. [editline]5th May 2012[/editline] Ah shit, page king... I don't have anything to post. Am not touching photos until my dissertation's in on Tuesday and only checking facepunch in the mornings :(
bopie's photo dumps are always so good, i've said multiple times before man but i'll say it again: your work is such a massive inspiration for me, the rich tones of all your shots are always top form, never any grainy or washed out shots; all of them filled with vibrant colours.

fuck it, massive simplification of this post I achieve my photos through lots of post processing and applying my own ego.
Bopie's reminds me of Alex Stoddard's photo, the whole foreground bokeh and hole in focus. Very nicely done, very pretty both photos.
