I used a Blackwidow for a while (Still have it, actually, and I alternate between it and a wireless Apple keyboard), and I really like the action on it. It's a very smooth, tactile switch. Perhaps not as good as a Ducky Red or something, but it's a lot chunkier than a membrane of any sort.
Maybe I'll look into their keypad. It's hard to go back to something that doesn't click quite so loudly. Might even let me switch entirely over to the Apple keyboard, if I can use it as a numpad. (Fun fact, those are also technically mechanical. They've got metal scissor switches, which are more akin to mechanical switches than membrane contacts.)
Awesome, thanks.
(Sorry about the tool rating. It's too close to the heart. I fixed it.)
One thing I've never understood about newer keyboards is why they can only handle a few simultaneous keypresses at once, is it some stupid legacy thing nobody wants to touch? I've seen a few sites blame it on USB but I think that's crap, if USB3 can do 5Gbps then why can't it handle holding down 10 keys together?
The cheap matrix they use for wiring up keys sucks too, you have situations where if you press the wrong keys it turns off other keys on the keyboard (Like E + D + F can turn off R, etc.)
eSports athlete sounds ridiculous. I wouldn't call a chess player an athlete.

It's because it's cheap, and the average user isn't going to be pressing more than two keys at a time.
Sure, you could throw a few microcontrollers into the board to allow for simultaneous keypresses, but when you're literally giving them away, why would you?
Why do I feel like I'm watching How It's Made with dubstep
Like seriously the narrator speaks in the same rate and everything
Never buy in to a new switch unless you've physically tried it.
I made that mistake with my Ducky Shine, though it's still a great keyboard. I like that it doesn't have these unnecessarily big plastic bases that most gaming keyboards have.
Based Razor saves [del]anime[/del] Gaming yet again!
i have a 90s dell mechanical keyboard, i stole it from my friend's garage
shit goes click clack hella loud mang
Someone's got hurted feelers.
I grew up typing on type writers as my dad had a bunch when I was little. The feeling of those keys is just so magical and awesome that it's unmistakably better than any other keyboard type thing I've ever used.
Getting a decent mechanical keyboard is the next best thing and makes a keyboard feel a lot better. As a writer I loved having my blackwidow because it was a good typing keyboard. And I had the money to spend on it and realistically, a 80$ mechanical keyboard is not a bad price to pay.
is this going to get rated tool too?
"Near Zero Tolerance"
As a drafter for machinists, you have no idea how much pain this statement is causing me.
the dubstep bass in the background of the video lets me know that this is a serious product intended for serious gamers like myself

ah, I have a unicomp. I bought it like 5 years ago. Razer hadn't quite come out with theirs yet when i bought my unicomp. I love the buckling spring action, it has lasted all these years without a breaking or feeling worn down. Great keyboard, would buy again.
you know the funny thing is that even with against pure typing switch like blues this literally will not make you at all
at all
the difference is insanely minor at best
EDIT
funny thing
every time I see someone with a razor shirt in loadout they're always really bad and try and be "Tactical" and use a sniper rifle or something with hyper crappy attachments
Just order a newly manufactured model M from unicomp, it'll probably be cheaper.
I eagerly await the day someone makes an NKRO buckling spring keyboard, I actually had the idea of buying an NKRO board and then frankensteining it to work with the buckling spring key somehow, but the idea could not end up being viable and or too bulky. I am currently using a unicomp model m space saver, and for some weird ass reason the right arrow key crapped out on it, which doesn't make a lot of sense at all.
I just killed my old Blackwidow a few months ago. I really did love that thing, it was worth the 80$ some odd I spent on it for sure.
This, depending on the price would be a decent replacement
Is it just me, or is the fact that you managed to kill a mechanical keyboard indicated that it was not necessarily a truly reliable product to begin with? or did you intentionally destroy it for some reason?
[editline]7th March 2014[/editline]
My blackwidow was pretty resilient to just about everything
however
a cup of coffee killed it.
This is what I get for not reading the entire thread before replying to you, that evil cup of coffee.
Razer is pretty much the Call of Duty of computer peripherals.
If you're good at videogames, you'll be good at videogames with a $10 wireless keyboard/mouse combo. Same as with any skill and medium ever.

No,no you can only be good with Razer™ Keyboards whilst drinking Mountain Dew™ and eating Doritos™

I was wrong, sorry :(
I don't like mechanical keyboards. The buttons are high and big like an old 1985 Macintosh, and the damn things are loud. I use just a simple logitech USB keyboard.
This one, to be exact

And let me tell you, it's fuckin' durable. These things should be bolted onto Abrams tanks. It's mostly about feel, though. Once you find something that fits you, you stick with it. It's why I still use a Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold after 12 years
I've had this keyboard so long, that the plastic on the keys has been worn down from all the button presses

It's dirty but what keyboard isn't after 9 years. If it ever breaks I'll just buy another one
Peripherals - keyboards especially - are your tactile connection to your PC. The happier you are with your keyboard, mechanical or not, the more you'll enjoy using your PC.
Seriously, DO NOT cheap out on a $15 keyboard. The difference is indescribable.
Also I make less typing errors on mechanical keyboards
have a razer blackwidow and a razer mamba, fight me
don't really understand the big hate for razer. are their products that bad? I agree that their ~gotta save gaming~ is incredibly stupid but they do have some good products though?

I make shittons of typing errors because of the height difference and spacing.
I guess the stuff Razer makes isn't bad. The Razer products I've seen/tried have been good, no doubt, but the pricetag is preposterous and I FUCKING. HATE. THEIR MARKETING.
This is why I prefer Steeleries. It's quality hardware without the whole "LEDs = sp33d" mentality. Also, my 6Gv2 is one of the few gaymen keyboards I've seen that aren't plastered with extra Gaming™ Buttons™ That I never use anyway. :v:
I make shittons of typing errors because of the height difference and spacing.
that's because you're used to membrane rather than mechanical. I bet most people who have made the transition to mechanical struggled with their typing in the beginning due to it feeling so different. I know for sure that I did, and now I'm at the point where I can barely type on a membrane keyboard due it feeling too weird.
eSports athlete sounds ridiculous. I wouldn't call a chess player an athlete.
You have to justify your unproductive hobby somehow.
Imagine paying more than 20$ for a keyboard

PBT keys and mechanical keys are much better when it comes to durability but that mostly depends on what you get.
I know pbt is better at least. Most ABS shines within months, while most PBT won't even look like it's starting to shine.

I used membrane since forever
the moment I used a BLANK keyed blue cherry MX I pretty much got used to it, very easily. There was no transition, it was just easier to type on, by a very large degree for me.
Imagine paying more than 20$ for a keyboard
not everyone wants to type on a shitty keyboard you know.
Mechanicals can still be cheap, but good really ones cost more.
Seriously, the keyboard is going to have massive use when you're typing on a computer. If you spent over 700$ on a nice pc, especially a high end PC, to shit out and buy a crappy 20$ keyboard is literally insane.
that being said don't get a "Gaming" keyboard that's absolutely stupid. They cheap out on the plastic to make the ugly as hell LED's pretty. Actually do research before buying anything razor even.
I don't know why anyone needs a "gaming" keyboard. I found mine in a garage somewhere years ago and it still works like new.
