As someone who spent most of their childhood on a farm, this is really humane. Many small time farmers don't bother with the whole stun/quick death slaughtering.
Totally worth it as pig tastes great. Shame the prices are rising.
should I be concerned that I didn't find this hard to watch or have any problem with anything that happens in the video
well apart from the visible effort the audience is putting into trying to look horrified
it's almost as if they're trying to convince themselves they didn't know this goes on

no it fucking wasn't, it'd be making ear shattering noise if it was

I feel this video is a little less dramatic and straight to the point. This may just be a personal feeling, but I believe that anyone who eats meat should take it upon themselves to go fishing, hunting, or trapping. You eat what you kill, and you are given an experience that makes you understand the facts of life. What comes from the Earth, must return to the Earth.

Sheltering. Plain and simple. A middle class person has most likely never been exposed to any "gross" or dirty jobs. They just go to the store and grab a slab of bacon, without much idea of how it got there.

You do understand that animals can be effectively dead, and their muscles will spaz out correct? For example, it's a very common sight that when you shoot a rabbit/hare in the head, it'll bounce about two to three feet into the air for a few seconds.

This video explains quiet a bit.

But I'm a middle class person myself
maybe even upper middle class, I'm not exactly sure how that's determined

Even as an upper-middle class kid, I have spent many years of my life hunting and aiding my father and uncle gutting animals like fish and deer. You can only be sheltered regarding blood do to the first kill in my eyes. After that it comes pretty naturally.

This is pretty much how we do it here.

Tho we don't roll that much things into the meat
Well that's why I dont eat pork from china
That's nowhere near as bad as I expected. The pig is obviously completely out cold and the death from the incision comes almost instantly. I can see this being a bit of a shock for those unaware (and I'm sure watching a video is easier than experiencing it), but let's be honest; this is how we get meat. If you think it's gross then that's fine, but back in the day slaughter of pigs and other animals were routine among households and I personally doesn't feel different about eating meat after watching this.
Kill it, Cook it, Eat it, Buy It, use it, break it, fix it, Trash it, change it, mail - upgrade it.
This was an alright series back when it was on. I don't know what people are expecting when they see this, I don't really know what could be more humane than one quick stab while the animal is unconscious.
That was amazingly quick and tidy, I'm impressed.
It consistently surprises me how many people do not know that many animals will continue to move and twitch even after brain death.
Imagine how they used to slaughter animals. This is very humane and efficient compared to using a hammer or whatever.
I thought the gutting was going to be a lot more disgusting than it actually was
I had no idea so much blood could come out of an artery that fast. Even if the electric shock didn't kill the pig, the lack of blood would kill the brain in several minutes, and it wouldn't even feel a thing happening anywhere in it's body.

I remember seeing my dad show me how to gut and clean a fish, it kept twitching on occasion when it basically was just a head and the spine left. They aren't alive even if they keep moving.
My dogs are fat and resemble those pigs those this was a little hard to watch.
I was not expecting so much blood to come streaming out. It reminded me of that video where the cow has a cyst and a gross pink liquid comes pouring out

Oh fuck, one of the worst things I can remember seeing is going to a local asian super market and seeing one of the workers pull a fish out of the water then bash its head repeatedly with a hammer
The comments section on these kind of videos are always fucking hilarious.

The slaughter still upsets me but I always think that killing animals for food is something humans have been doing for thousands of years and the methods of killing have only become more humane over time.
I have such a huge respect for the animals we consume, as retarded as it sounds.
I find it strange how i can be kinda disgusted by this but happily be eating a sausage sandwich while watching it.
this is how i hope all my meats are slaughtered.
I worked in a slaughter house for 4 years, doing this, along with lambs and cows. This is probably the most common and more efficient method while some places kill pigs and cows with a bolt gun.
It's completely humane and all the animals are knocked out the moment they are shocked with the electric tongs. They don't have a chance to come back around since they are stuck quickly and bleed out almost instantly.
To put your minds at rest, they also have a qualified vet to supervise the entire process from the moment they start to the moment they finish to ensure that the animals are treated well and aren't subjected to any unnecessary suffering, pain or excitement.
But if you still feel like having a go at the slaughtering industry, I'd suggest turning your attention to the halal method. The animals are not stunned or sedated in anyway, they are killed fully concious when they have their throats slit and then left to bleed out. It's not nice to watch and not a nice way to go.
I was surprised how much blood was coming out through the wound. If I undrestand it right that much blood loss so quickly makes for a quick death and keeps the pig unconscious without blood going to the brain.
That was substantially more humane than I thought it'd be. If there's one gripe I have with slaughter, it's the sloppy methods, as well as carrying out the killing in plain sight of other, conscious animals. It pisses me off, because animals do have feelings, and if they're standing right next to other animals getting killed, I feel that's inhumane.
Stunning meant they were unconscious and the cuts to the artery were cleanly done. This video doesn't bother me, and actually makes me feel less guilty about eating meat, since I know the animals have had minimal suffering. I don't know how people can watch this and say "That's horrible!". Killing animals is how you get the food you like. The only thing we can do about an ugly act is to make it the least painful and most efficient way possible for the animal to lower their suffering.
I was expecting a lot more cringing from me. But that initial shock at the beginning makes the whole situation perfectly fine by me.
The only thing I cringed at was how the camera just kept zooming in to look at the sad faces of people who think the entire situation is absolutely horrible.
I like this kind of event. It's not a fear-monging disgust-evoking provocative anti-meat propaganda but a sober, observing but also unapologetic insight in the actual process. I am all for that, if people want to make a choice of weather to consume meat or not on behalf of ethical or emotional concerns, they should be able to get an unbiased insight.
Personally, I don't eat an excess of meat. If meat is on my table or in the butcher's display, I'm not exactly saving an animals live anymore by avoiding it or worse, making someone who went through the trouble of cooking a great meal throw it away.
I treat meat 'respectfully'. If I eat meat, I make it something special and put much effort into it since it is not something I take for granted.
I think we can all agree its better this way for the animal, but lets not get starry-eyed at the whole event at all. In the end, the animal dies. Thats the horrible part. Life is taken.
Something to be said about Capitalism and its ability to create distance between this kind of stuff through dollar signs. I eat meat, but if I had to kill the animal myself, I don't think I could do it. Call me a softie, and call it denial, but to a certain extent we all go through this.
It was a pig, now its pork. It was a chicken, now its poultry. It was a cow, now its beef.
Im rambling, I guess the only thing I can take away from this is a sort of solemn realization about how im implicated in what I would think is a grave ethical injustice (killing of animals), just for food that tastes good.
