We Are Number One but it's a RuneScape music video

It's all about entitlement. Similar issue to the paid mod fiasco.
"You're not entitled to make money off of popular memes that aren't yours!"
"You're not entitled to make money off of a hobby!"
"You're not entitled to make money off of youtube! Youtube is meant to be a ~creative~ platform."

Or, put another way:
"Why should x be making money for doing y! Anyone could do y! _I_ could have done y!"
To which the response is, was, and always shall be: "Yeah, you could have done y, but you didn't. They did."
Basically, it's just people being jealous of others' success. Nothing new here - it's a tune we've all heard a thousand different ways by now.
Is this really an issue considering how retarded of him it would be to not reuse them (He probably spent a good amount of time creating that effect) and the effort he puts into other parts of the film (lyrics) as well as the variety and effort in some of his other creations?
Before answer, remind yourself that this is a fucking meme video where someone gets $20 a month for their work for making a video almost every other day.
Just because it's a meme video doesn't mean you have to recycle your .veg of a garbage editing skills. it's also no effort because you're just doing the same thing over and over, recycling the same project file to do the same joke, you seriously gotta be easily amused if you think that putting an image layer on robbie rotten's face requires actual effort, let alone changing the pre-made layer to something else (wow!). With something any idiot could replicate on Sony Vegas.

You're already piggyback off memes. By monetizing your videos and having a patreon at the same time, he doesn't even try and put actual effort in it, it's recycling his content, using flavor of the month memes and it's incredibly scummy.

Let me just rewind for a second here. What's exactly the problem?
He's making low effort videos that people like and watch, while also asking for a patreon that only gives him $20 a month?

He's piggybacking off a meme, especially on Robbie Rotten, who has pancreatic cancer. if you take your eyes off his patreon and see the image I just linked where it shows he's partnered with fullscreen, he's gaining atleast a minimum of 2.7k dollars a month or a maximum of 43.9k dollars a month too. It's fucking scummy, especially when he already doing a patreon for even more money. People like you don't see how often see he recycles his content so much and how much he can pump these out in a day. Getting more adsense money out of people who click on his hundred of videos.

Like god damn, it honestly makes me pissed that people think this is somehow fine because "people like it" or because "it's a meme". Has your standards dissolved so much that you'll accept scum like this exploiting anything new they'll find on the internet? let alone creating pre-made cookie cutter bullshit videos for that sweet youtube dosh.

Lets pretend for a moment that his youtube revenue matters. Socialblade calculates that by assuming he has a CPM of $0.25 USD to $4.00 USD. Some CPMS can be as low as 7 cents so it's not an accurate way of determining youtube revenue especially when you consider the cut that he will have to give to Fullscreen.
Now let's go back to reality.
What really is the determining factor for me is intent. If he quite literally said in his head "I'm going to exploit the fuck out of this meme and robbie rotten's cancer" which is highly unlikely because he already has a minecraft channel that has 10 times as views than his meme channel.

It's likely that his rise to "fame" was accidental. He expresses surprise on his twitter account.

$20 a month is nothing. You can gain $20 a month for doing google surveys for the amount of time he spent making these videos.
Also welcome to capitalism. If people are willing to pay for a video by watching a quick 5 second ad, then that's the way things are.

You're being hysterical. It's a meme. Do you expect high-quality videos of the finest craftsmanship? You may have a problem with the reasoning "it's a meme" or "people like it" but memes are inherently low quality, I'm not sure what you're trying to tell us. When you watch a video labelled "We Are Number One but" what exactly are you expecting? Are you trying to say that people should be outraged that this person does different low-effort versions of the meme instead of just doing a single one-off video? Or that we should be outraged because he gets money off of memes? Or because he gets money and he barely spends any effort? No one's forcing anyone to pay anything or watch anything, which is why I'm so confused at to what the problem is here; we should be getting angry at the guy because despite the effort being low he produces entertaining content and people pay him for it?
if your problem is actually that he's piggybacking off a meme where the person has pancreatic cancer, you must be forgetting that the mass production of this meme is what rose awareness and funded him in the first place. If no one made a we are number one video because of "piggybacking", Stefan would not have the funding he would have now. How can you have a problem with someone making videos of a meme that garners millions of views and literally in the description makes everyone aware that the actor has cancer and can be supported? The piggybacking of this meme and the meme itself is what has brought Stefan great support; why is it a problem that someone also coincidentally has a deal with a third-party to get paid for their videos?
The problem here is that people are using this meme as a way to get off in popularity by doing flavor of the month dogshit editing equivalent to changing a few scenes in Sony Vegas and adding distortion effects. They're also piggybacking off this meme, making patreons that instead of driving attention to fucking Robbie Rotten himself who has cancer, drives attention to some fuckin idiot who learned how to apply a distortion effect on a video.
God damn I sincerely can't fucking believe how people are so idiotic to donate to this shitstain of a guy instead of donating to Stefan's gofundme for cancer treatment: https://www.gofundme.com/2tm9tqk
Grandayy like basically all these memelords link to Stefans cancer gofundme.

He even puts it above his fucking patreon that you're so obsessed about. He gets $21 bucks a month, how does that detract from Stefans already funded campaign? And, let's be real here, the only reason Stefans campaign got funded is because of memelords advertising it. You're just being an asshole dude.

Because grandayy wasn't the first to do a We Are Number One video. It started with Soundcloud, afterwards with Silvagunner, the ironic shitposting edits wouldn't exist with them, and which pretty much actually kickstarted the donation to the cancer treatment. It's a good thing that the videos brought a lot of attention to Stefan's cancer, even if the video are not that good. but what I'm complaining here is about penis pumping weenies making money off of it or attempting to milk it just because it blew off recently.
I already showed couple of examples of people making their decisions of reselling other people's covers (with a lot of effort put into it) and people reselling their shirts on redbubble. I'm angry about most of those edits being low effort too, I get that you expect those type of meme videos to be edited by people who just learned how to crack a video editing software, but there are better creators and "memers" out there who are pretty much getting ignored because people are masturbating about the thought of putting the bee movie on something and the people who'll replicate such easy and exploitable thing to do.
Expect those kind of videos where people make low-effort edits to blow up even more. It'll get to a bad point where more people will exploit so.
We live in an era where people are unironically calling for Meme Court

It's not that, we're in a year where memes are getting so big that it's pretty much everywhere. Memes shouldn't be exempt from criticism just because they're ironic or low-effort, if I see badly made content I'll say it's shit, I won't exempt memes.

Aren't you the one obsessed with everything having to be ~effort filled~? I don't see how half of these are better than the RS one, which has genuinely funny editing and a lot of relevant injokes from the RS community. Honestly you probably need to be a active player to appreciate half of it.
I can't believe I'm having this argument about how someone made a meme and you really didn't like it. Does it really hurt you that much that someone got popular and is making $21 a month making meme videos you don't like?

You aren't fit to judge any of these videos to me because you have no fucking idea what you're judging in the first place, "yeah man it's just some sound library swap and pre existing cutouts and sound bytes". You don't actually know the process behind those videos and you're oversimplifying all of it as if they were done with pre-made available tools (sooo unlike grandayy who doesn't reuse the same project file). All of which you've ignorantly fail to explain how so. You're even using wrong and confusing terms like "sound library swap", "pre existing cutouts" and "mash up".
It's painful because you're mistakenly trying to make all of those videos look like if they were made by a newb. saying that Urpoliitikko's video is just "distortion and cutouts" when there's heavy rotoscoping (masking) work put into and a very high effort attempt to remove everyone except Robbie. Saying that larryinc64's video is just a midi swap when he actually re-composed and arranged that by using the original game's samples (which requires knowledge in both music theory and reverse engineering if you're attempting to rip the samples out of the game). Saying that RazQ's video is just "pre existing cutouts" and a "mash up" when they're actually individually rotoscoped by himself, the samples are arranged on a DAW. much like a YTPMV (which requires effort, believe it or not) and he made the visuals himself. (You also said that he linked his twitter. Who fucking cares, it's his twitter, not his patreon)
Come back when you actually know what the fuck you are talking about, especially for when it's to judge someone who actually knows what he's talking about.

Indeed, you have convinced me that the technical precision and editing required in these videos are absolutely definitive of their quality, humour, and entertainment value- these are obviously great videos which need more recognition for their effort.
Grandayy's videos re-use the same edit over and over again- what a hack and a fraud; these videos must not be funny or entertaining at all, obviously. He also has a patreon... what scum. You are right, if anyone enjoys his videos, their standards are probably non existant and they most likely have awful taste.
If that wasn't clear, that was sarcasm. You seem to think that quality = effort and effort = editing precision, which just isn't true. You don't have to make an incredibly technically edited video to entertain people, and it shouldn't have to be that way, either. Likewise, someone's effort isn't only measurable by the how much editing goes into their video but how much thought they put into it as well. Watching a couple of your videos, I exited them a couple seconds after watching cause I didn't find them entertaining enough. Having played Runescape when I was younger, this video made me chuckle within seconds and entertained me. And there's nothing wrong with this. It's not a matter of low standards or anything like that. Just cause Grandday re-uses his project assets from before it suddenly means his newer content is not funny in the slightest despite the numerous additional edits? And just because someone went through the effort of making one character in the video pixelized and distorting their sound it is suddenly a great quality video? Or because someone replaced the band music with random music it's suddenly great quality? I didn't even look at all of the videos on your list because after watching 4 of them, none of them entertained me enough to keep watching.
Sure, the videos you posted are clearly better made. But what the fuck does it matter? For most people the videos could not fucking exist, the point is hardly the video, the point is what retarded unthinkable mashup you can come up with. Actually, I'm certain most people don't even fucking watch the video, they just look at the title and have a giggle.
This video could be remade by Steven Spielberg with musical score by Zombie Mozart and it still wouldn't make the "It's number one but with runescape memes" gimmick any more or less funny.
Personally I think all memes are detrimental to humanity and only mock the sophisticated quality of their sources.

Case in point, you're just dismissing his videos as no thought because he re-used a couple assets. That's the entire problem here.
And good job cherrypicking videos you thought were ridiculous saying 90% of them are that. What about this runescape one? You have to actually understand the Runescape community and have played to actually appreciate the jokes. Like do you think jokes just come out of thin air? What about his Tank engine one? There's not even original "We are number one" footage at all in that, that's a completely separate video entirely. You also ignore the fact that all of his videos don't even recycle the same thing, he doesn't just swap a single here and there, he actually does additional editing (which is obvious if you watch just a single video of his??).
But nevermind that, he re-uses a project file every now and then, this man's content is unfunny, uncreative, and garbage, clearly. Somehow a video that distorts one of the characters singing is greater quality and much more thoughtful. Or one that replaces the band's music is also much more thoughtful and entertaining. After reading your post, I can tell you clearly missed my point
jesuuuuuus guys aren't we supposed to post witty funny shit about the meme
You're not just "saying what you think about this whole thing", you're rudely telling people they have no standards, and at the same time telling everyone this guy who makes videos is a big hack because he re-uses assets. Literally, that's your first post. You're also incredibly aggressive and unpleasant.
The Thomas one is incredibly low effort as the rest, barely anything edited at all (wow he overlayed a transparent layer of robbie rotten's face on the trains!) and manages to get off-tune on certain parts with the audio. I half understand the runescape one because it's also filled with meme shit, but still the usual slapping 1 or 2 transparent layers on something barely motion tracked along with runescape text.
His "additional editing" is nothing at all, it's a very simple and fast job anyone can do, especially when you're already mostly doing cookie cutter shit as part of the video.
Yeah I might be negative about this (which I am), but I don't care. Go enjoy his videos, I can't stop you from liking them. But I won't stop criticizing for what I think it is.
right so half the thread gets banned and some guy comes in later and starts a meme court. Thanks for making my christmas facepunch
