One of the first songs to use AutoTune, and it turned out quite well, its like any effect, if you use it wrong - you fuck shit up.
When used as an instrument - go right ahead.
When used to make generic mainstream shit in which the artist can't sing for shit but looks pretty - fuck off.
ruins the point of music, people who can sing should sing, people who can't shouldn't, singing isn't for everyone
ruins the point of music, people who can sing should sing, people who can't shouldn't, singing isn't for everyone
Pretty much every recording singer today uses autotune, be it pop, rock, electronic, metal, soul & RnB, you name it. Are you saying none of them can sing?

Tuners ruin the point of music. People who have absolute pitch should do music, people without it shouldn't. Creating music isn't for everyone.

Typing on a computer ruins the point of writing. Unless you are an expert in calligraphy, you shouldn't have made that post at all. Writing isn't for everyone.

I am not sure if you missed the sarcasm or for some reason decided to go further with the joke but I don't care.
I salute you TH89, Facepunch mod team has suffered a major loss.

I am not sure how much does this classify as autotune, but I just love this voice.
I don't mind auto-tune when used in moderation, or as an effect. Daft Punk are the best example I can think of.
Daft Punk uses vocoders.
I know Cher in Believe does a great job with Autotune.
Care to elaborate?
Because I've seen lines of dialogue pulled from video games which have been autotuned to make it sound like the character is singing.
Autotune can be used to change a pitch to a different pitch, and when you speak, you're always sort of "singing" AKA you're hitting a certain pitch.
Pretty much every recording singer today uses autotune, be it pop, rock, electronic, metal, soul & RnB, you name it.
Where are you getting that idea? A good number of people use it, but there are a ton of singers that don't use it. How much it is being used is exaggerated so much.
Tuners ruin the point of music. People who have absolute pitch should do music, people without it shouldn't. Creating music isn't for everyone.
Yes, all music is about is perfect pitch. It's isn't at all like musicians will purposeful detune their instruments a little to give a feeling of greater depth. Any singer that sings off key is obviously a bad singer, it isn't like it isn't used to achieve a certain effect. Who gives a crap about tone, phrasing, intensity, rhythm, melody, or any other musical qualities? Musical quality is of course defined by the accuracy of the frequencies. If your A4 isn't exactly 440hz, you shouldn't even attempt to do anything with music.

Recording ruins the point of music. People who can play live should play music, people who can't shouldn't. Music isn't for everyone.

Dude. The backing music is one of the built-in "Magic" (basically demo songs) songs in Garageband.
:gonk:
Mild autotune is okay.
OMG I'MA BE A ROBOT autotune is shit
Autotune can be used as an artistic choice. Kanye West isn't a TERRIBLE singer, but he autotuned a lot of his stuff on 808's and Heartbreak, because the CD went for a robotic-ish theme.
Apparently music forum hasn't invented sarcasm yet.
I though Shibbey is a rare case but it seems that the retard pool is bigger than I ever thought.

I don't care. :smug:
I only 'hate' it when it's used as an effect, rather than a tool to correct slight mistakes in a recording of a voice/instrument (which it what it was made for)
Although in some cases it can still sound cool as an effect.

tbh I thought you were serious, but in my defense that sounded like something some people here would actually say
Apparently music forum hasn't invented sarcasm yet.
Tonal sarcasm doesn't carry over in text unless you know the person. If you think it does carry over, you are mistaken. If you think we know you, you are mistaken. If you want your sarcasm to come through, don't imitate the other side, become their extreme.
If it's used in very small samples to add a little effect to a song it's fine, but when the whole song is autotuned it sucks.

thom yorke, bjork, joanna newsom, and beth gibbons do not
Gorillaz don't.
That's actually the only band I listen to that's still coming out with music.
I just realized that. Kinda sucks... Nothing new to look forward to.
sucks for you
i got shitloads to look forward to
and all the artists i've never heard as well
Me and my Step Brother started a group based solely on using autotune. Our goal is to make music that sounds like it could compete with current mainstream stuff.

I'm the one singing, and I did the production except for the drum track. That was my step brother's doing.
The singing isn't so good bruhbruh
I know, Not only was I doing a really shitty job that day, we also didn't know how to configure the autotune properly, so it doesn't snap to the right notes.
I don't consider it one of my real projects where I actually try and create genuinely good music.
Autotune is a useful tool which many vocalists use, as well as a bunch of other effects and tools. Abusing it to make up for bad singing is what people complain about, but most people just blame autotuning itself.
Christ, stop whining. Does it really matter?
