How can you compare quality using shitty screenshots. It depends entirely on the tv. If you had a 1080p 50" lcd screen... You would be silenced by the clarity. :colbert:
Well, I did say I hadn't seen the blu-ray version, just heard from a couple of places that it wasn't that great.
I haven't actually seen it, but the quality shouldn't be that greater on the blu-ray than on the dvd.
DVD:

the bluray looks like they borrowed a green filter from twilight

terrible comparison since dvd's are 740x480 and blu-ray's are 1920x1080 and can look like this
(lost blu-ray)
lol yeah.
But buying old movies as bluray is a waste of time. They were recorded small.
Lotr was not.
this is wrong btw
even old films (most) can go up to resolutions of 2 or 4k i forget which but both are definitely NOT small

I recommend Fight Club

Quality is great, amazing use of grain. Keeps the clarity.

Damn, that picture of Sawyer makes me want a Sawyer Beard.
terrible comparison
Yes, I have already been told that :colbert:
That was a pretty awful comparison seeing as it was scaled down.
Get the Band of Brothers box set and Fight Club.
Yes, I have already been told that :colbert:
you need to be told more
FUCK YEAH FIGHT CLUB
Watched that twice last week.
Need to do it again.
35mm film (used since 1892) has a maximum comparative 1400 lines of resolution, higher than 1080p. Source
So even old movies will look better on Blu-Ray if they do shit right. Of course, if the studio has lost the film and has to upconvert an already-digitized version it's going to look like shit.
Ok you win.
Disregard what i said earlier.
Not because they can't scan the negatives. I think that's what was done for the HD version of Star Wars.
Does anyone know where I can find a relatively fair priced portable Blu-ray player. You know, Blu-ray + screen combined. Like the portable DVD players. Now, you must wonder "Why the heck would he want to watch Blu-ray's on a tiny screen instead of a big TV?". Well, this is how I prefer it. Just chilling on my bed while watching movies on my tiny portable DVD player. Unless I watch something with friends, then it's on the TV.
Apocalypto
Ip Man

If the screen is small, you won't notice any difference between Blu Ray and DVD.
