incentivize it. Reward yourself with something every time you think about doing it and manage to not smoke.
Not just not spending money on a pack, like budget something that you like doing into chunks of time you can allot yourself for every time you refuse to smoke.
Something along those lines
Cold turkey is probably the best way to do it but addictions are, well, addicting. There are drugs to help people quit smoking, bupropion being one that people have had success with.
It's also mildly effective as a weight loss drug so it might have additional benefits if you find yourself stress eating as a result of quitting smoking.
Practice self control for once.
are much less harsh, on your throat and lungs (just soothing water vapor!)
While they don't cause breathing-related breath problems, they're irritant, not soothing, as to simulate the hit.
That said, try them out. Worst case, you don't like them. Best case, you eventually manage to quit entirely. You may also switch to e-cigarettes permanently, which will still leave you addicted to nicotine, but be a lot cheaper and less unhealthy.
There's a lot of crap on the market though, do your research before you decide to get one.

i'm being serious, my friend's trying to quit, and whenever he wants a cig real bad he just loads a baccy bong.
Tried this a couple of months ago, I'm now more addicted to baccys than I ever was to cigs.
at least i don't smoke cigarettes anymore...
I think the point is taking hits so huge that you feel like shit afterwards.

You know there's e-liquids and e-cigs without nicotine in them, right?
I know it's been said a million times, but seriously, E-cigs.
I never smoked but I've seen a shitload of my friends reduce or quit completely using e-cigs.
Also you get to smoke inside the house. :v:
Smoke tobacco in a bong, the hit's so fat you won't want a cigarette for another few hours or so, and you only use a tiny bit of tobacco.

Been doing that. Actually now I smoke both cigs and bongs with weed and or tobacco. Not helpful.
Besides, my friend was doing some research on what kind of shit is produced when tobacco is partially burnt and makes contact with water. His predictions weren't pleasant.

THIS on the other hand sounds like your best bet if you dose yourself with proper decrements. HOWEVER, the same dosing can be achieved with cigarettes. Also, people are failing to mention that the nicotine in e-cigs is delivered more efficiently and suddenly. This is worse on your heart. tsk tsk tsk.
don't know about you but this helped me out

Also you will suffer while quitting, one way or another :)
Use some nicotine-gum or such then get addicted to them instead. This happened to my dad. At least he doesn't ever smell like shit/cigarettes anymore. :v:
roll your own cigarettes. it is cheaper and will reduce the numbers significantly.
Friend of mine used a vape pen to quit smoking cigarettes, try that.

Have you ever tried a vaporiser? They annihilate my throat, I'd much rather smoke cigarettes than them things
Ditch the analogs and go for electronic cigarettes. After you switch, you don't even have to give up that sweet, sweet nicotine. Nicotine by itself isn't actually harmful. It's the carcinogens created by the combustion of tobacco. Head over to reddit's ecig board. It's got people who actually vape as a hobby and know what they're talking about. Don't get those dumb blu servo station e-cigs, by a proper one for 50 euroes and it'll last for years.

Most health complications smokers get are from inhaling burn products (tar, carbon monoxide) and not nicotine, though. The nicotine generally isn't what kills you.
I've never smoked ever, but I've heard lots of good things about Alan Carr's book Easy Way to Stop Smoking. Apparently, it lets you keep smoking as you read it and by the time you finish, you don't want another one, or so I've heard.
I've also heard about LSD in conjunction with some sort of therapy work being really effective in kicking the habit.
Your strong will is the key to quit smoking:dance:
e-cigs are the way to go
[editline]1st April 2014[/editline]
i smoke regular cigs every once in a while nowadays but i've been mostly just vaping
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bupropion
This is your answer.
E-cigs?
Do what I did.
Use nicorette gum the first couple of weeks and use an e-cig.
I only hit my e-cig a couple times a day, sometimes not at all.
And I'll be 4 months without a cigarette in 3 days.
Do you guys have some tips or opinions on what the best course of should be?
Nicoderm CQ patches.
I'm wearing one now.
It's been two weeks. Day 1: I went from a pack a day to 5 cigarettes. Currently, I'll have one cigarette socially, but otherwise won't think of it.
It's an investment, but if you're ready to quit, it's worth it.
I work in a bar, so I decided that it's likely impossible to quit . While contemplating why impulse control had anything to do with my surroundings or people therein...I decided that there WAS no correlation, only excuses. Weakness. That day, I decided that it's all bullshit. Every thought or action that lead to a smoke was the weakness that I needed to quit, and that no longer smoking would be a by-product of kicking that weakness.
Seriously, imo you absolutely have to want to. Find your reasons.
