The Dark Knight Rises is, hands down, the most anticipated film of the year. So it's fitting that the film's incendiary anarchist should help kick off our very own revolution...
What better way to launch the brand new interactive iPad edition of Total Film magazine than with an exclusive look at Tom Hardy’s monstrous villain, Bane.
The close-up image offers an unparalleled look at his freaky facewear. Part Hannibal Lector mask, part Predator mandible and wholly unlike the lycra luchador look he sported in the comic, it's destined to make the character an instant icon.
And those eyes… there’s something deeply unsettling about the manic stare Hardy’s locked in here, hinting a level of feral intensity not yet revealed in the trailers. Pray you're not caught in that line of sight...
On the mask, Hardy told us: “It’s not as bad as you might think. You just put it on. Work out where your drool goes. That’s it. Mask work is good fun. This one wasn’t painful; there was the stunt mask and there was the up-close one for the sexy glam shots.”
And he also shared some startling insight into the unforgiving regime he stuck to when we asked: what was required to attain the Bane bulk? “Eating entire villages of chickens.
“When I started I was about 160-something pounds. When I was done I was 190. You lift weights. You eat. You lift some more weights. You don’t run anywhere because if you do cardio, you drop weight. So it’s really good for heart attacks!”
There’s much more from Hardy, his fellow Dark Knight Rises castmembers and director Christopher Nolan – as well as more exclusive shots - in the new issue of Total Film magazine, and the brand new interactive iPad edition.
And, in celebration of this launch, you can get the brand new interactive issue of Total Film on your iPad for the special price of £1.99 for a limited period of two weeks (regular price £3.99), so there’s no better excuse to try it out.
On top of our full Dark Knight Rises coverage, Issue 194 also features our unique look at Batman: Past, Present And Future. Our Caped Crusader celebration takes in his 73-year history, and includes unseen behind-the-scenes shots from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.
Well, to be honest. The first thing that comes to mind from that mask isn't glam. Now, I'm not going to make the goatse comment for the sake of it being older than time.
It does look menacing though.
now i suddenly see the mask as a double headcrab

"I've seen some shit, man"
Really though I bet he's gonna do a spectacular job.

Oh, great. Now I'll see two headcrabs mating when I go watch this.
Winners from a t-shirt design contest, apparently picked by Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas.

The winning design is awful - it's too noisy and would be more suited for a poster instead of a t-shirt.
the last one is fucking amazing
Wow, I just noticed. Bane looks like a Cthulhu in that mask.

its like, exactly the same as the tdk poster except nowhere near as cool
reminds me of the Begins poster more
It's just colored first poster with Batman from some photo.
It's not that bad, but I expected more. I wonder why current marketing for that movie sucks so badly.
That is a real poster?
It looks like something found in the Photoshop contests section.
Especially after how awesome and unique the previous posters have been.
Oh, so that's why he decided to never add Robin to his movies.
It sounds terrible at first, but I can actually see Eminem doing Robin in the Nola-verse. He's actually a pretty competent actor. He handles darkness pretty well. Plus he somewhat looks like Arkham Cities Robin atleast. Maybe it's just me.

Is Batman doing the Michael Jackson lean? What is this.

You can't stand like that. This is silly.
The other two films had great posters. The second one echoed 9/11 in the ways all great movies do, but this is awful. A lot of the trailers and leaks are hinting at [sp]Bane leading some sort of rebellion, specially with his "Rise up" speech that leaked. I'd say if the Dark Knight was a spin on terrorism then this is a spin on all the worlds riots. Nice to see the posters reflect that and not make it look like an Action Movie. Oh wait.[/sp]
