His voice in the movies was ridiculously over the top and it was a little hard to take him seriously sometimes.

I too would like to think it's him but I sorta have the same concerns as you. In the scene he says "if you don't want to die but don't know how to take a life then give it to me. . . Or I'll kill you and take it from you." It shows that he has killed before or done other horrid things and is okay with taking a couple of lives but he will not kill so many people. It makes him human.
