Beskinski never gave meaning to his works, they're mostly from his dreams and wanderings of the mind. The meaning comes from your own personal experience. He prefers it this way.

This is why I fucking hate this generation of artists. It's all about spectacle and shiny baubles and useless confusing details. Don't know shit about composition or color, and don't care either.

I have to agree with you on that one, every dude here and on DA is all about knowledge and "practice", I have never seen any intentionally(!) good work on both FP and DA. You never get to see something finished, it's all about practice and show off. If only those "artists" could really see the reason why a great piece is great and would study at least the basics of composition and such.

I'm sorry, but I'm not entirely sure I understand what you're saying.
What I said was pretty irrelevant but it does link to what you said, I just meant that most dudes focus on improving their skill rather than learn how to make things look good and usually the don't respect the guys who do. And making things look good does not always comes with skill, I mean look at all these modern artists. Some of them, yeah they are taking advantage on the current situation but others are really good at what they do.

I love how first you want art to be "art" but then you tell them to study composition which is against what you are. Either that or you're very confusing.
Art is different to each. Some think a tree in a field is art, some think polygons stacked in the right order is art, some think not messy programming code is art.
For example that piece I posted that got quoted, I consider it art because it's amazing in texture and model, it brings out my "technical" art emotions. I don't care if it's sad or happy, I consider skilled talent as art.
Almost no pieces in this thread bring out the "artistic" art emotions to me.
You cannot define what is art and what isn't, because in the end everything is done in artistic manner.

For me art is how pleasant a picture appears to be. How all the colors the angle everything intentionally contribute to how well each element is standing out - how harmonical it is. I mean look at that:
How does it become easier inside photoshop?
. . .
I do believe this is a situation where the only adequate answer is, in what way isn't it easier?
. . .
I do believe this is a situation where the only adequate answer is, in what way isn't it easier?
So how is it easier? Photoshop doesn't draw perspective for you.
this is why I want to stab you in the face with a soldering iron, dgg.
That's cool. I'd like to see the result.
You know what you should do? Draw just that.
oh yes, lets make it cool
:downs:
I think you take my wording of "cool" there as "Oh my God! This sum real cool shit you made thar".
What I meant is that it would be a lot more interesting and emotional if it actually was a bunch of humans standing there, almost silhouettes of just a bunch of humans, standing there, out in the cold.
Now that would make it a lot more interesting and emotional. Not just a bunch of poles out in a flat landscape fading out in the horizon. Sure it's a technically good piece with the perspective, but fuck if that matters if it's a boring piece, TO ME.
This is why I fucking hate this generation of artists. It's all about spectacle and shiny baubles and useless confusing details. Don't know shit about composition or color, and don't care either.

Hahahaha. It's always been like that, "always" being ever since the invention of handheld cameras for people to get.
I also don't see how you can't see a well 3D modeled human being in a complex armor suit with good textures as art. Yet a square canvas with well executed perspective and colour combinations is a fucking masterpiece.
Are we talking about being extremely biased against what you think of as art and not allowing anyone to think differently? Hmm, yes... You define art as if there is only one way art can be.
As if he would know how hard it is to make something like that outside of fucking photoshop.
Yeah... Because I've neeeeever done aaaany traditional work at aaaal... Noooooooooo.

Yet you think good modelling and hard work put into making textures is fucking stupid and just about being "cool and shiny".
You make me laugh.
And on that note, if that is so, why the fuck are you even in this thread?
Hmm, bad phrasing I guess. Wait, no, it just lacks more detail.
I'm not really that interested in looking at art pieces that is outside of FP and the people I follow on DA.
The reason I like to look at art pieces in FP is because it's either by great artists or people that strive to be so, seeing peoples amateurish work is a lot better than looking at old professionals do shit, people you have no relation to whatsoever, how boring. Just wading through excellent pieces of art for no reason.
On FP I know a bunch of people and it's more relaxed, I can critique and possibly help the person get even better, or I can just watch as people give that person help and see that person improve. It's generally just more fun and interesting to watch art this way, rather than just flick through lots of done pieces of art by complete and utter strangers I will have no communication with.
That good enough for you?
Christ, I never even mentioned what "art" is. The fuck are you even talking about?
I said that a simple yet effective use of composition and color is worth orders more than something that's pointlessly complex and detailed.
Yeah... Because I've neeeeever done aaaany traditional work at aaaal... Noooooooooo.

I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to Kaskade. All has two Ls in it by the way.

This is the Art Appreciation Thread. How does liking to watch people get better relate to you posting in a thread devoted to great artwork about how you have no interest in great artwork?
Christ, I never even mentioned what "art" is. The fuck are you even talking about?
I'm talking about how you say that todays artist are all about "cool" and how that well made 3D model is an example of that, something you deem not good art, because it's just about "being fancy and cool".
Also how you really push hard on the art guidelines being THE way to make art.
I said that a simple yet effective use of composition and color is worth orders more than something that's pointlessly complex and detailed.
Afterwards. What you've mainly been going on about is how great of a art piece it was because it had such good use of perspective and that you need to pay RESPECT to it. I mean, what? Respect because he knows how to use perspective?
But I don't disagree with what you're actually trying to say though.
Grunge texture. Overlay. I say no more.

Dammit.
This is the Art Appreciation Thread. How does liking to watch people get better relate to you posting in a thread devoted to great artwork about how you have no interest in great artwork?
I'm actually posting here because you posted about the piece 3v3rybody posted, then I just said something back and it slowly developed from there. It has nothing to do with anything that the thread stands for, because this is off-topic.
And it's not like I don't have ANY interest in watching artworks at all, but I don't have such an interest in watching them that I would seek after them on other websites. But this is a thread on a forum I visit several times a day, why not just take a peek at some artwork someone posted? It could possibly be very nice.
In order to stop being off-topic and clogging this thread up I'll just leave it at this, I love doing these discussions way too much.

Terrible excuse for an artist? Well yeah, I won't disagree with that really. I've never called myself an artist though and never believed I am one either. The main reason I got interested in a graphical design job in the first place was to aid with getting rid of bad technical jobs, like white outlines on cutouts and comic sansed banners and the like. Simple as that.

Nobody in their right mind would say that the image johan posted isn't fantastically done if they actually understand the medium.
The amount of work and thought to get something like that is phenomenal. Even if he doesn't think it's appealing it's obvious he doesn't understand what it takes to create something like that. I've seen plenty of work I don't particularly like but I respect and attempt to fully understand what went into it. Doesn't seem like he's doing that at all.
[editline]28th December 2010[/editline]
Also, I'm not referring to it in an artistic aspect, I'm talking about a matter of skill and how technically good it is. I don't care for painting but if I see a painting that hardly looks different from a photograph I'll drop my jaw.
I've always found people who judge art at contests I've been to have no idea what they're looking at. It seems to be a qualification for the job to hate everything. Must be easier to figure out what you hate the least than what you love the most.
