Rien Poortvliet, Dutch painter.

Main subject is European wildlife but well known for his gnomes.
Used to be a hunter but turned animal lover, one of his books about gnomes specificly was Time magazine's #1 book for a while if I recall correctly lol.

I really love seeing a piece of art come together or simply watching someone draw/paint. I'm like a kid in a candy shop with stuff like that. This is one of the reason I love coming here and seeing WIPs and sketches. What started out as me wanting to know how to draw developed into a love of watching other peoples' creative process and tutorials. Don't get me wrong I like like the finish works too, but something about the creation process is really cool in my opinion. The following is just one example.

I've been a fan of [url]Matt Rhodes[/url] for a while, his stuff is really interesting, to me, in that he can pack so much emotion, depth, and seriousness into his work but still have the linework be thick and have almost like a cartoony style. He also has so many story elements behind his work. Like in that last one, it's like the girl was escorting the guy (who might be an alchemist or something) to get that white glowing flower in the middle of a dangerous forest. They'd probably go at night because that's the best time to find something that glows, but it's also more dangerous at night, hence all of the little creatures in the woods. It's like he's thanking her and she's going "shut up!".

Also, a very interesting quote from him about fight scenes: "I like to draw the moment's before or after. Either the excitement of potential, or acting like sherlock holmes."
