• Why do people say, "Like" every other word?
Not a good speech habit. I don't say 'like' or 'uh' whenever I talk. Sometimes if my brain farts I might just stop talking altogether until my brain catches up with my mouth.
I don't see why you deciding it's not good just because you don't do it makes it a bad thing...
Usually when you forget what you were saying, then you remember
Here in the Netherlands everyone constantly keeps saying "zeg maar" every other word
That would be awesome if people in the states said that.
A girl in my class does this all the time, some of the guys behind me have started betting on how many times she'll say it in one sentence.
'cause like, people are fucking like stupid or something. Like, you know? Like, they see that shit like being said on like movies and TV shows. Then like, they get it like stuck in their heads or like something like that. Like, it's really like fucking annoying and like stuff. [editline]07:23PM[/editline]
i think its been going on a little longer than ten years
Like, totally man. But he only started sentences with it, and didn't say it often. He's a big stoner though.
Here's what you do: Bring two girls over and have them talk to eachother in one room, then in another room, watch through one of those tinted windows that can only be seen through from one side and play the drinking game, where every time one of them says "like", you take a drink.
Like, gosh, look at her big butt, it's like, so huge.
like, that totally like sounds like those blond girls like, talking
I do this all the time :3
Hey man don't you think we should UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH unplug it first? vs. Hey man don't you think we should like unplug it first?
The only people who do this are stupid 14-16 year old girls stop generalizing
Slightly Related.
I say "like" slightly more than I used to, but I don't really say it that often.
Hey guys. Are you, like, shit, doing anything special, like, uhm, tommorow or shit, like, sometime soon. Because i'm like, urm, shit, bored and like, shit, I have nothing to do during the week. You see, my parents are, like, shit, uhm, on vacation without me and, shit, like, there's nothing to like, shit, uhm, do, so uhm, like, you think we can like, shit, go hang out sometime?
Err...?
Its nothing new :v:
I've been trying to stop doing this, Faggots tend to make it sound so brainless.
Sounds plain irritating, and my parents have that habit.
Why do englishmen put an extra R in words?
As a non native speaker I sometimes hear that habit in movies. I always thought cool teenagers say that to look very chilled and awesome like they don't care for nothing
I've noticed a lot of people say "like" before they make an opinion, even casually. When I have trouble getting a point across, I'll either start over or say "It's like..." and then trail off for a little while. So it's not the same thing as what I do, but I imagine "like" helps some people organize their thoughts.
Used to say "uuuuuuh" very often before, but my brother complained so much about it that now I talk slower and think faster. When those "uuuuuh" times come I'm mostly just quiet.
Its the societys fault.
Its the societys fault.
And who would the society be in this case?
I mainly here it when girls are talking about what happened last night "And then i was like, and then she was like, and then i was like, and then she was like.........."
that's just a way of saying "and then she said"
People try to talk fast to hold the attention of others, and so they need some kind of filler to give them enough time to think. Mine is "You know...", I notice myself saying it a lot more frequently than I should. The solution is to slow down so you can think about what you're saying, and not try to blow through it before your audience gets bored. That's probably why I love the internet so much, I have unlimited time to type, think, edit, and post.
no one really says "like" this much, you're retarded
This is mostly a California/US West Coast thing. Everyone from out-of-state in my school doesn't say like every other word...
I don't mind that so much. I notice it, but I let it slide. You know why? I know people who speak the same way using the word "fuck" or "fuckin'." It's especially annoying to me when they start a sentence off that way. "Fuckin', I was at the fuckin' store and fuckin', my buddy fuckin' went up to the guy, fuckin'.." etc. The person I am thinking of specifically in this example, although he's by no means the only one, also drinks his face off, so he slurs and sounds drunk all the time. You can imagine listening to him ramble on at 1,000 miles a minute about a story only he knows about with every third word being fuck. [editline]10:28AM[/editline]
no one really says "like" this much, you're retarded
Yes, people do. I just experienced it the other night.
What's even worse than saying "like" after every other word: Saying "uhhhhhhh...." after every other word. It's a common nervous studder, but damn it's annoying.
