RED is living proof of why capitalism is wrong. Some chinese kid worked for no pay assembling these overpriced plastic toys, material cost like below the 100 USD, but they put the final price at multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars for a barely functional camera. What is this bullshit? Hitmen work for less money than the basic parts for this camera alone costed.

its market is rich kids, and it just so happens that a spattering of actual film companies have use for them as well. even then, they're rented and not bought outright. equipment houses may buy 10 or so of these and that's still barely anything compared to the hundreds being sold to individuals with more money than sense. a yeezy shirt is still a shirt, and poor people can still buy one, but it's obvious what their intended market for sustained income is. it's a matter of "i have the money, so who cares if it's massively overpriced"? it's completely inaccessible for average indies when the entire thing costs as much as an entire house. i'm not bashing 8k cameras, i'm bashing them for charging $950 for a goddamn handle. they can charge such prices because there isn't any competition, not because they're barely going to make ends meet otherwise. if they were selling as many cameras to productions as claimed, then why do they need all the money-milking proprietary cables that cost hundreds of dollars to "make ends meet"?
Are you guys really young or something? I'll spell it out for you: 1. Very very niche market. They will not make any money if they sell it at a small markup from how much it actually costs. 2. R&D costs, these are very specialized equipment, not handycams you find at your local electronics store, quality is why they are bought. 3. As people have said, either massive movie studios buy them (Who obtain revenue in the millions) or places that rent them out. You think this stuff is expensive because you're thinking from the budget of a single person, not companies who earn millions a year. You are very naive if you think everything in the world must be priced only very slightly above how much they cost in parts and labor. Consumer products that are overpriced yes you may have an argument for a handbag or shirt that costs hundreds or thousands, these are typically marketed towards the masses and you can afford to market it lower. Also this is a bulky camera that is clearly not meant to be used on the go, why do you think rich kids would want this? [editline]5th May 2017[/editline]
The point of the video wasn't to complain about the RED camera because in its field, the RED Weapon is the best in its class with a justified price. He was taking a piss on the ""accessories"" that you had to buy that were actually cheap plastics being labeled at 200 and above dollar that is required to have a functional camera.
The fact that you can barely use the camera by itself it's pretty obvious that you need to buy the accessories too, mate
i mean obviously this is bullshit but it bugs me that he's annoyed it has no audio recorder of course it doesn't have an audio recorder, it's a cinema camera. does he think the dozens of mics involved in tv shooting all feed into the camera lmao
A RED/cinema camera workflow is literally not for LTT video workflows anyways. In movies and the like, video and audio is still synced by hand with the help of a clapper board. Syncing with audio does help make things easier/faster but it doesn't mean the sync is 100%. Camera may be further away from the subject than the microphone, etc., etc. LTT video workflow is basically, shoot with audio in the footage, then go straight to editing. LTT probably has enough editors to do manual audio syncing but that's just extra crap to do. Some video shooting workflows output individual image files too.

Albeit I would never understand why they'd need two at this moment, but who knows, they might need it for scrapyard wars or the like. It's definitely got an amazing sensor and the video quality, regardless of the 8K bit, is absolutely fantastic.
He only drops AMD products.
And stocks
It may look like it but just because it has an unorthodox design and a skull logo doesn't mean it is for rich kids. It should be obvious that a 100k camera isn't meant for ordinary consumers even if they are rich.
