For example, Silver's boss fight. You save Elise, and are running to town, when Silver shows up to fuck shit up for reasons that remain unexplained. He uses his psychic powers to throw shit, and you, around like ragdolls, utilizing amazing psychic powers. Sound cool? The problem is the game clearly didn't have much quality control. While you [I]can[/I] fight Silver with little to no difficulty, you have to know the pattern, which the playtesters probably did, so they knew how to counter him. Anyone just launching the game will take a bit to learn his pattern, and therefor get caught and locked by him. This wouldn't be as bad if each toss didn't take 5 seconds to throw you, and if Stunlocks didn't happen. If they had done something simple; say, make Silver stay in the center of the stage for the most part, it would have worked fine, and really been balanced given his mechanics. But alot of the time it looks like they barely even playtested it, and if they did, it was with Developer Rigging of some sort for testing purposes. All in all Sonic '06 is a really well thought out game with a storyline that isn't too awful, just in actual practice they did a terrible job executing the plot, gameplay or visuals.

Playing more of Sonic Heroes, I have a feeling the same specific people worked on both Sonic 06 and Heroes. Both games have arguably missing animations, E.G. no transition animations from any action to another, characters just terribly jut into new frames of animation. And the Sliding, and the boss fights that don't really work... or fight back at all, and the broken physics.

fun story: they had a focus group play through sonic 06, and sonic team fudged all comments on and results of all focus testing sessions. this isn't anything illegal since focus group testing isnt mandatory, but still shows how desperate they were to get this game out, despite it being broken and unfinished. another fun story, Play Magazine gave it a 9.5/10 which makes it, literally, a near perfect game
