Arin and Jon's game length discussion have all my agrees
Probably because it comes of of really pretentious, mainly just Arin, I can usually respect someone's opinion even if I disagree, but when it comes to his opinions, I just don't know, they seem really, really weak argument wise, and just frustrating to listen to.
I don't think it comes out as pretentious. It comes out as normal opinions. They both have their own type of games that they like and genres they hate and whatnot like anyon else.
They can both be retards, but that's because opinions are opinions. Jon will defend his favourite games blindly without any proper arguments because he's blinded by nostalgia googles. He uses "It's good because it's fun" as an argument (Kirby), which is just dumb, but it's nevertheless his way of looking at games, and that's ok with me, I think of him as stupid and continue from there.
Also like Arin has said when it comes to Sequelitis, he re-writes his script 18 times over the span of well over a year. The Arin people love, that knows so much about games and is so good at argumenting about the goods and the bads only exists on paper. In a live argument he's no different than anyone else, some arguments are sensible and well-informed, other arguments are illogical and ignorant.
I disagree with jon. A game can definitely be too short. It's a cost to time thing. If I pay 60 bucks for a triple a game then I expect that it will last me a while. On the other hand, like a ten dollar indie game like Hotline Miami only takes a few hours to finish, which is fine because I only paid ten bucks for it.
And some games definitely seem to make themselves longer just to be longer. IMO Mass Effect 2 and 3 in my opinions are way too fucking long. I haven't finished either of them because while I fucking love the parts where you walk around the city and talk to people, as soon as those chest high walls come up i'm just like "15 minutes of popping out of cover fucking AGAIN." and it just gets quite boring after a while...
Braid was perfect in length because it felt like it explored every part of it's own mechanics and then finished the game without repeating shit. In those situations game length doesn't matter.
Eww, no. If you're going for the ~artistic true ending~ then the game literally has an hour of nothing which is sheer padding.
If I like a game, I like to have more game to play. Simple as that. I don't consider the meat of the game to be an obstacle to get to the ending.
Goddamn, the Sonic '06 snowboarding had me in tears.
To be honest if I hadn't rehearsed what I was going to say and someone asked me my opinion on something and to back it up, I would probably give some weak points
gonna start watching the megaman series tomorrow morning. 18 straight episodes of grumps, here i come!
I feel bad for anybody who has just started watching Game Grumps and wants to watch every episode. I started relatively early when there were only about 50 or so videos that I was able to watch over a week or two and can now keep up regularly with the new videos every day. Now there's five times that amount. If each episode is at least 10 minutes, which they're not, that's a minimum of nearly 42 hours of pure Game Grumps. Not to mention that you have to consider the 2 new videos a day.

It'd be like Achilles and the tortoise- by the time you finish the 42 hours there'd be even more videos, and by the time you finish THOSE...
Oh my god that Sonic episode had me in tears.
They just slightly grazed that tower going 2 miles an hour and it just fucking collapses. And good lord the glitching and getting stuck on the edge of the course.
Haven't laughed that hard in awhile.
Episode 1 of Donkey Kong Country - "This is one of my all time favourite games, if not my favourite game"
Episode 9 of Donkey Kong Country - "Who said this was my favourite game? I didn't say that. Did you say that?"

That's Jon for you. He doesn't even know what he's saying himself.

Jon's opinion may be heavily influenced by nostalgia but he's completely aware of it and tries not to let it into his arguments.

For a moment when he say "the game is playing himself!" I was hoping for this:

Still one of the best episodes at time.
well yeah 'cause it was a reference to that
well yeah 'cause it was a reference to that
I know, I was saying I was waiting from them to go like that.
I hope they never let that Sonic game, is just a huge gold mine.
at first i thought ego said he didn't like majora's mask and i was absolutely astounded that anyone could dislike it
like, ocarina? i like it, but i can totally understand why some people wouldn't.
but majora's takes all of OOT's flaws and irons them the fuck out and its nearly perfect. it's genuinely the best zelda in my opinion, and one of my favorite games in general.
[editline]25th November 2012[/editline]
but then he said "i really wanna play majora's" and i was like ok good
[editline]25th November 2012[/editline]
that's not even nostalgia goggles talking i played that shit last week

Right there with you on that one brosephus.
Majora's Mask is easily the best Zelda game, and one of the most effective examples of perfectly interwoven gameplay and story of all time.

and that weird chilling atmosphere throughout
I'd also really disagree with Jon as I have felt several movies were definitely too short.
Biggest offender was Army of Darkness. It's an absolutely hilarious movie but it only clocks in at a little over an hour. I was left wanting more.
and how fucked up some of the realizations were mostly because you weren't expecting dark shit in a zelda game
and how skull kid's body just kind of lifelessly flopped to the ground after the mask was done with him just aaaaaaaa
i had real trouble playing majoras mask because the time limit was too stressful i couldn't take it. i don't understand why games do that. being timed is not fun.
the time limit was not even an issue, it gave you adequate time to do the shit you needed to do before saving and resetting to day one
especially after you figured out how to slow time down a ton, with the backwards song of time
i had real trouble playing majoras mask because the time limit was too stressful i couldn't take it.
that's exactly what the game was aiming for
literally everybody who dislikes majora's mask says its cause of the time limit. I hate constricting time limits in games but majora's did it so perfectly.
not to mention the clock counting down to an inevitable doomsday that you could only stall for so long before you had to let it happen makes the player stress out in all the right ways, because that's the kind of feeling the protagonist, ie you, should be feeling. everything in the game is revolved around the countdown and the crash, its not some arbitrary clock making you play faster. egoraptor called it theming in sequelitis and that totally applies here imo.

well, when you're like me and only rented the game that KIND of a very stressfull thing.
yeah well alright whatever just get yourself a copy you can play at your own leisurely pace and play it again its fucking great
Whenever I play games I always take my time to make sure I get absolutely everything, and the timer didn't really affect me at all.
