that's exactly what the game was aiming for
well great because is successfully made me stop playing.
I have fond memories of Majora's Mask. Beat the game when I was 9.
Also got it as a Christmas present from my grandmother 2 months before she died of lung cancer.
literally everybody who dislikes majora's mask says its cause of the time limit. I hate constricting time limits in games but majora's did it so perfectly.
not to mention the clock counting down to an inevitable doomsday that you could only stall for so long before you had to let it happen makes the player stress out in all the right ways, because that's the kind of feeling the protagonist, ie you, should be feeling. everything in the game is revolved around the countdown and the crash, its not some arbitrary clock making you play faster. egoraptor called it theming in sequelitis and that totally applies here imo.
majora's mask is one of the most atmospheric games ever made hands down
The time transcending rupee bank always boggled my mind to no end.
that's exactly what the game was aiming for
Doesn't mean it makes it a good thing.
at first i thought ego said he didn't like majora's mask and i was absolutely astounded that anyone could dislike it
like, ocarina? i like it, but i can totally understand why some people wouldn't.
but majora's takes all of OOT's flaws and irons them the fuck out and its nearly perfect. it's genuinely the best zelda in my opinion, and one of my favorite games in general.

but then he said "i really wanna play majora's" and i was like ok good
[editline]25th November 2012[/editline]
that's not even nostalgia goggles talking i played that shit last week
It was comparatively too short. Basic game was 4 dungeons, and that's it.
It was comparatively too short. Basic game was 4 dungeons, and that's it.
that's because the bulk of the game took place outside of dungeons
it focused more on world building and adventuring than dungeon crawling what's wrong with that
well great because is successfully made me stop playing.
i don't like italians
mario is italian
0/10 didn't finish bad games
[editline]25th November 2012[/editline]
amnesia was too scary so i didn't finish it
0/10 broken game
It was comparatively too short. Basic game was 4 dungeons, and that's it.
the dungeons in Majora's were way bigger than the dungeons in Ocarina and there was a lot more stuff outside of the dungeons

what? it's nothing like that
i just found the time constraint too stressful and i wasn't having fun, so i stopped playing.
the dungeons in Majora's were way bigger than the dungeons in Ocarina and there was a lot more stuff outside of the dungeons
the thing is that MM did a lot with giving the dungeons narrative significance
you know, beyond collecting magic coins and shit
what? it's nothing like that

but that has nothing to do with the quality of the game
if it's made to be oppressive and stressful and it succeeds in doing that how is it bad because you don't like that feel
it's not a comment on the game it's a comment on you
i again bring up the amnesia example. the game was designed to be scary and it succeeds at being scary. what does it matter if you like scary things or not?
If the clock is such a problem, then just use the slow time song.
It makes it alot easier if you're having issues.

what are you arguing here exactly
that i should keep playing even though i'm not having a good time? i didn't comment on the quality of the game. from the get go all i said is it is too stressful for me and i did not like it and so i stopped playing

i guess with you disagreeing with everyone on everything all the time i just assumed that when you said the game was unplayable in response to a post saying the game was good you were implying that the game wasn't good
i'm sure it's great if you can deal with being timed but for me it just adds a level of strenuous panic that i do not at all enjoy in my video games. at least in dead rising the game was goofy enough for me to not care that much and it was managable anyway, and most of the enjoyment i got out of the game was after i beat it and realised it actually doesn't matter at all.

honestly i feel like the complete opposite
see in dead rising when you missed its optional stuff it went "BLEEP BLOOP MISSION FAILED THEY WERE MURDERED TO DEATH AND IT'S YOUR FAULT" so there was this message from the game that you failed at something. The game is feeding you information that you failed.
you can ignore it, yeah, but that's still what the game is saying
MM establishes immediately that you can only do so much in three days and that your best bet is to focus on one thing each cycle. All the stuff you don't do is ignored by the game and it only goes "BLOOP YOU FAILED" when you miss something major that you're actively following.
Even then, my favorite moments from Dead Rising come from shepherding around whole groups of survivors, trying to hit every objective in a single run. It added weight and tension to what would otherwise be really boring escort bullshit.
[editline]25th November 2012[/editline]
i don't know maybe MM is stressful if you're trying really hard to do a ton of stuff in a single run but if you just do one thing and keep reseting time it isn't really hard
see what I like is that you don't have to rush to do everything in one day. Usually the game will give you a challenge, then when you complete it you'll get some item that lets you complete the challenge again almost immediately so you don't have to fuck around with it the next cycle.
whereas in DR if you want to complete the main quest you had better not be fucking late cause otherwise that's hours of shit right down the drain
I wish I could get nostalgia from GameGrumps.
When they were playing Kirby Superstar I was reminded of when I used to play that game with my brother. We even picked Poppy Bros almost all the time.
Not exactly nostalgia since that was around one or two years ago, but something a bit similar
The time transcending rupee bank always boggled my mind to no end.
The banker is a Time Lord. The cow is his TARDIS in disguise. Obviously.
I'd also really disagree with Jon as I have felt several movies were definitely too short.
Biggest offender was Army of Darkness. It's an absolutely hilarious movie but it only clocks in at a little over an hour. I was left wanting more.
Nineteen Eighty-Four is another example of this
it should have been like twice as long, but that's because it wasn't as long as it needed to be to explain everything.
i had majoras mask but years ago, i sucked at it and could never find my way past the deku tree. i ought to buy myself a copy again and try to actually play the game for real this time, especially if they're doing a playthrough of it soon.

Didn't Arin and Jon imply they did things off-screen? That had to have saved somewhere in-between those times.
Didn't Arin and Jon imply they did things off-screen? That had to have saved somewhere in-between those times.
They also saved after chasing the kids, so no worries about that one at least.
And yes, they mentioned that they had 4000 more coins since they left us, so hopefully they saved during that as well.
i want to buy majoras mask but gamestop isn't selling it and fuck waiting a week and a half for amazon to deliver even with expedited shipping. the closest gamestop selling OoT is like 60 miles away. yeah okay im totally gonna go that far. useless shits.

what the fuck did you expect it's like a 10 year old game
what the fuck did you expect it's like a 10 year old game
so is every other damn gamecube game but i had no trouble getting them. it was easily the most popular gc game and yet they dont sell it at a gamestore. then again gamestop has always had shitty selections. i hate ordering from amazon, no matter what option you choose it always take too long. by the time it gets here i lose the excitement i originally had to play the game. thats what happened with sa2b, i wanted to play it for the longest time, finally ordered it, and when it came it was a very meh feeling.
