The building on the left on the loading screen does look like New York.

I understand what Jon was saying about how that level reminds him of NYC. LA is mostly just a sprawled of a city, whereas NYC is centralized with a lot of tall buildings in a relatively small area.

[editline]27th November 2012[/editline] image might be broken i cant tell from my end it's "Robot Alchemic Drive" aka "RAD". its a really clunky game about giant robots, with the worst voice acting ever in anything, and Nanao, who is possibly the best supporting character in any narrative, whose grandma gets blown the fuck up by said giant robots in the most spectacular fashion. Basically a missile hits her grandma's house, sending the stiff, boardlike frontflipping corpse of grandma flying into the streets with outrageous amounts of shitty blood sprite effects behind her. This game is truly a work of art.

The donkey kong episodes are boring yet the sanic ones are absolutely hilarious how does that happen

because jon is realizing donkey kong country is not as good as he thought it was and ego just hates it meanwhile sonic 06 is HILARIOUSLY bad. you can't not laugh at it.

Serious business mode in the DKC episodes makes up for it, though.

jon's "serious critic" videos are terrible probably because he's terrible at being a serious critic he can bring some good points to the table but most of the time his opinions are founded in total bullshit that being said, i fucking love jon nowadays.

People fondly remember the game as being mind-blowing back in the day, but looking at it from an objective standpoint the game does absolutely nothing revolutionary in the gameplay department. It's about as mundane as a platformer can be. I'm not usually one to say that people only say something is good because of nostalgia, but for Donkey Kong Country I am very willing to do so. I'm very willing to bet that the sequels are just as bad in all of those regards, admittedly having never played them. I'm not very quick to trust JonTron's judgement on the quality of games because he's not very good at articulating why he likes them, usually falling back on either saying "It's a masterpiece" or citing his enjoyment of it as a kid. On that note, the latest episode of Donkey Kong really bothered me when Jon mentioned Donkey Kong 64 and why he didn't like it, yet couldn't articulate well what he meant when he said that the game "wastes your time." It seems like it would be a lot easier to say why you wouldn't like something. "It's like a less-refined Banjo-Kazooie" or "It's Banjo-Kazooie but a lot slower-paced" were both things that he said that were perfectly valid, but then he immediately disagreed with himself and said that he doesn't know why he doesn't like it.
