I think that the main goal of the prison system should be rehab.
But some sickos will continue to commit violent crimes forever, and all they do is drain money from the system. They need to be destroyed.
I personally oppose the death penalty. I don't believe in taking another human life for whatever the reason. Rehabilitation, if possible, is favorable. I also favor the idea of exile to that of incarceration. If someone has disobeyed your laws, they should have the option to either pay the penalty or leave the country forever. However, any country they would be sent to would be able to deal with their crimes according to their laws.

Then you put them in Jail forever. :/
There's no need for killing someone.
Killing a killer, is hypocritical and completely against the laws they are supposedly "enforcing".

But is lifelong incarceration not simply prolonged execution? That person will never have the chance to truly live again.
This is what makes me believe exile should be an option.

Exile isn't an option, because if he's a serial killer, he'll just kill in another country.
This is an impossible question, Equal to Who is the one for global warming.
Exile isn't an option, because if he's a serial killer, he'll just kill in another country.
But he would be handed over to that country's government.
Taxpayers are losing more money by keeping people with life sentences in overcrowded prisons than just killing them.
Personally, What I think needs to happen, is make the life sentene the new Death Penalty...
You can't even begin to imagine how much money people would save with this, and we solve the problem of over populated prisons...
It's a win-win situation here people!
The only thing that has been holding this idea back from seeing the light of day are from the people who say it's "Inhumane, immoral, etc..." But I say screw morals when the people who are being subjected to the procedures obviously have none...
You are uninformed. Executions often cost more than lifelong imprisonment.

So some some tropical island sets themselves up as resort where rich people can live out their exile in luxury?
But he would be handed over to that country's government.
And get exiled from there. :/

You are correct.

Well, if all countries adopted this policy, eventually the killers would be exiled from all of society. Which is about the same as incarceration.

also a little bit of sauce: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29552692/
Why should someone who chooses to take another life have the right to keep his own? I'm all for capital punishment.

So you're going to exile a man from Earth?
"Which is about the same as incarceration."
Then just put him in jail and stop wasting time. :/

I never said to eliminate jails. Just to have the option.

Some people do it in rage, passion and defense.
How do you choose who's put to death and who isn't?
Then, it's a question of how do you expect people to treat others equally, if the Government can't.
Perhaps some country is okay with rapists and murderers doing their thing. Better have them there than stuck in our country.
Why should you have the right to take his life?
Maybe because he took another life?
Maybe because he took another life?
So that makes you God?
Perhaps some country is okay with rapists and murderers doing their thing. Better have them there than stuck in our country.
So you're fine with innocent people getting murdered and raped, as long as they aren't in your Country? :/

That's our problem today, there is no fine line between what deserves life and capital punishment.
That's our problem today, there is no fine line between what deserves life and capital punishment.
Exactly, so get rid of capital punishment altogether, so we don't fuck up.
So you're fine with innocent people getting murdered and raped, as long as they aren't in your Country? :/
No. The point was that no country is going to be fine with rapists and murderers.
I guess the overall point is that if these people can't abide by the rules of society, they should not be a part of it.
And it costs even more to keep them in prison.
Wrong.
EDIT: Posted before I noticed it was 9 pages :/
Exactly, so get rid of capital punishment altogether, so we don't fuck up.
So let the guy who killed and raped little kids still live his life?
It depends on the crime.
If he slaughtered 50 people and then set them on fire, then yes.
If he killed one person, with little to no proof, then let him live. This time could be used to research what happened and if he is guilty or not.
No. The point was that no country is going to be fine with rapists and murderers.

Then just put them in jail, away from Society, problem fucking solved.
So let the guy who killed and raped little kids still live his life?
In Jail, yes.
So that makes you God?
The punishment put on any criminal is his and only his fault. He decided to commit the crime(s), no one else.
[editline]03:46AM[/editline]
In Jail, yes.
So what if it was your kids who he killed and raped? Who had no respect for the lives of your kids, so why would you give respect to his life?
no.
I think every convicted criminal should be killed. One bullet to the head. That should free up a few billion dollars from our budget.

I'm not giving him respect to his life, he's going to jail to suffer, whereas he dies instantly on Deathrow. :/
Killing someone else doesn't bring anything back nor does it change anything, except that ANOTHER human being is dead.
I think that people should be given the choice for life in prison, or the death penalty--basically making it legal suicide.
