People might not like them, but saying they're encouraging feelings of sadness is simply incorrect.
when I listen to it, I feel a bit down in the dumps, my friends have all noticed the same thing happening. Especially Black parade, the first single on that album was a real wrist slitter.

Do you want me to lie about the way that their music evokes emotion in me? You can't exactly say their songs are happy.
So this is based only on how they make you feel, not what the lyrics are about?
They make me feel happy, so where does that get us?
well you seem to be in the minority, the majority of people who go out to listen to MCR are 13-14 year old girls and boys who play this music to show how 'deep' or 'emotional' they are. The key fanbase for this band intentionally listen to this music because it conveys that they are feeling sad, or 'emo'.
I like my music to either convey feelings of happiness, or anger.
[editline]12:10AM[/editline]
or at least cover mature themes.
I like how you're going on about how people should respect your music tastes but as soon as someone states what they dislike about MCR you have a huge tantrum.

I don't really see how that's the fault of the band. The band write music and lyrics based around their experiences, it's not their fault if they're misconstrued by their fans into somehow justifying their fantasised adversity. Again, blame the fans if you want to blame anyone

The fans were attracted for a reason though. MCR primarily cover quite simplistic and quite frankly, childish themes like death or being treated poorly by people you care about. They have this whole 'tryhard' thing going where it's like they have to seem deep and sing about very sombre topics, when in fact it's just pretty run-of-the-mill cookie-cutter stuff that they borrowed from NiN
But again, who are you to judge if they are writing based on their experiences growing up in a shit town?

A fan of music? Are you seriously saying that me, a musician myself (though that isn't even important) and a fan of music am not allowed to provide critique towards a band which I feel are childish and poor quality?
I grew up in a shit town, it doesn't make me write whiny emo songs.

I can't shake the opinion that you are largely basing your opinion of the band on their fanbase.
Firstly, the only album they released which had any pretensions was The Black Parade, which, being a concept record, I think is fairly acceptable to have some loftiness to it. Secondly, the music they produce (at least around their first and second album) was the music they wanted to produce, based on their experience and their interpretation of where they live.
Not once did I say that growing up in a shit town makes bands like MCR, everyone interprets things in different ways.

you keep saying 'it's what they wanted to produce' but that doesn't make it any better quality. It's still a whiny alterna-rock band with a lead singer wearing makeup and singing in a really annoying voice, combined with pretty run-of-the-mill guitar work, and no real bite behind anything to grab my interest.
I'll judge them to be a bad band if I please.
[editline]09:21AM[/editline]
Also it's funny, you're making assumptions about me making assumptions.
[editline]09:24AM[/editline]
And what I meant was, growing up in a shit town does not open the floodgates to allow you to make poor music and get away with it.

Correct.
I don't think they deserve any more attention than we are giving them now to be honest :colbert:

wait, what is your point exactly?
that your argument is fallacious and shit
My argument is that they've got to appeal to that demographic for a reason, it doesn't just 'happen' and listening to their music, it's often juvenile and incredibly mediocre.
That's my argument
[editline]12:28PM[/editline]
I mean christ, Gerard Way's over 30 and still singing songs like he's an angsty teenager. I would understand music as basic and derivative as that from a teenage garage band, but not fully grown adults
they've got to appeal to that demographic for a reason
hmm, I did think Black Parade was good. But I don't see myself being stereotypical, unless other people do :psyduck:

Akayz you fit nowhere in that demographic, you are one smooooth soul brotha.

MCR is part of the cancer of today's music industry.
MCR is part of the cancer of today's music industry.
Why do I get the impression that you're 14 years old?
14 year olds are the basic fans, so no
This thread makes me feel all happy on the inside; I really love the butthurt.
Anyways, IMO MCR is a decent band. They may not have deep or even very meaningful lyrics (that we can understand), and I agree not all the songs on Black Parade were extraordinary, but their style of music appeals to me. Some of my favorite songs are by them, especially from "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love" and "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge". As said before, your taste in music is your opinion, and I really like MCR's style.
Why do I get the impression that you're 14 years old?
Because when people on the internet read something they consider wrong the first thing they do is assume whoever posted it is really really young. That's why you get that impression.
i like the music and don't give a fuck what people think
ye, i roll down the street in my '85 z blasting cake, and when it switches to "i don't love you" by mcr i slap on my trollface and keep cruisin
this thread is funny because the majority of Facepunch users are 13-14 and the plurality of Facepunch users have never developed a music taste

Truth
but this is the music section so it's not entirely right

No I think I got that impression because anyone who actually thinks that clearly has no grasp of the music industry and probably plays in a garage metalcore thinking he's going to start a revolution.
I just have no patience for stupid opinions v:v:v
