I have the coolest job and the coolest manager ever. I work at a hotel, but it's an extended stay type hotel, mostly just business travelers and people who need a long term place to stay while they relocate, so we're not very busy at night. In fact, the front desk closes at 11pm. This week I'm working the 11pm to 7am shift, and there isn't much I actually have to do, but someone has to be here the whole time. So my manager is letting me bring my xbox in to work. This week I get paid $10 an hour to sit on my ass in a vacant room and play Skyrim all night.
You lucky son of a bitch

Long story short, I'm jealous.
Got an interview at a Loblaws supermarket. Here I come, $9.60 an hour!
Only $9 an hour? Wow....
Only $9 an hour? Wow....
In my state, all we get is minimum wage, which is like $7.60 an hour.
Today is going to be the busiest day of the year at my grocery store. And you $9-per-hour folks are lucky, i started at $7.25, then $7.35, then I managed $8.05, before taxes haha. I also get to work thanksgiving too, it's nice though, I get 1.5x pay rate!
Man I just sold so many Kindle Fires and iPad 2s it was ridiculous. Nobody wants computers anymore. Can't wait to see what Black Friday is like this year, being the first Black Friday with tablets (well except for iPad). Some guy was "waiting" outside when I left a little bit ago. I wonder how many more sheep will line up between now and tomorrow night. Well that was one job down, now to go work at my other job, which is also retail but not an electronics store. Hopefully it's slow there I need a rest.
Work at a small-chain game store on the east coast. We've been sold out of Skyrim since essentially the day it came out, and Bethseda are a bunch of dicksacks when it comes to wanting to give us more stock. I've been cursed out in person, while my coworker has been yelled at three times over the course of the past two weeks because we have to explain we have no copies in. We won't have any for Black Friday, despite our wonderful regional managers putting it on our Black Friday list. All of my hate, working opening from 6AM-2 on Hellday. Can't wait to start explaining to all the holiday-shopping grandmothers how no, Call of Duty is not like Grand Theft Auto, and no, neither of them are appropriate for your 8 year old grandson and we do not want his mom to come back to our store, demanding a return after he's opened it and played it a few hours. Here, have a copy of Lego: Pirates of the Caribbean instead, or even better, a gift card. [7.25 hour isn't worth this shit]

And extremely surprisingly, I only encountered one asshole customer. The story isn't really important enough to tell here, though.

So our store was having an all 30% sale for black friday for us employees only, and on top of that we were allowed to use our 30% employee discount. So it was pretty much around 60%. Every single employee brought a whole bunch of stuff because we got paid on that day. It was definitely a great day to buy a whole ton of stuff.
I worked in a deli from october of last year until yesterday, after I put in my two weeks' notice. I had made it up to assistant manager and it wasn't a bad job, but I wasn't having fun and my heart wasn't into it, so I quit. For my last day I had two interesting things happen: A drunk guy who was convinced I was selling him yellow american cheese instead of mild cheddar, and I worked from 7am-9:30pm without a break. But the second one is kind of normal.
Why the fuck would you not want a free drink
She was trying to give him a counterfeited $100 so she'd get back change in legitimate money. [editline]24th November 2011[/editline]
In my state, all we get is minimum wage, which is like $7.60 an hour.
That's funny because I'm making $.25 more than minimum wage and I still make 10 cents less than that [editline]24th November 2011[/editline] Also, ths isn't retail nor too strange, but at this restaurant I wash dishes at, I constantly get entire plates of untouched food. Perfect, prestine, preserved plates of food manage to make their way from the kitchen, out to the table, where the person must literally look at it and say, "Wow, that looks good!" and then proceeds to leave without even touching it, then back to me. .....
She was trying to give him a counterfeited $100 so she'd get back change in legitimate money. .....
Yes I get that but I'd still want a free drink even if I was trying to launder money.
Yes I get that but I'd still want a free drink even if I was trying to launder money.
She couldn't exactly get the change if she accepted the free drink could she.
I really need to rewrite my resume or something. I've applied to like 20 places and not a call back from any of them.
I really need to rewrite my resume or something. If you want, you can block out any info you don't want on the internet and then post it here, we could give you some pointers. Also, is it a general resume, or a specific resume?

Don't have much choice, really. :v: Though I do wish we got holiday pay and/or overtime, but nope!
I worked at a shoe shop just a few years ago and this pretty old guy came to the counter to pay for his shoes. No problems when ringing them up, he rambles on about nothing for a little bit but thats about it. Before he leaves he turns back around to me and asks me if i could call him a taxi, i'm a little confused about what to do at this point as it was one of the first few weeks i was working the till and i ended up telling him no because i'm pretty sure the phone can only be used to call other stores, to receive calls from customers, the line behind him was pretty long and all the other employees who were working the shop floor were busy. He flips his shit shouting about how i'm being disrespectful and how he fought in World War 2, i tell him i'm sorry but it's just not what that phone is used for and he calls me "a bloody idiot" and walks out the shop. The person behind him in the line then comes up to the counter and gives me look as if to say "what the fuck was with that guy". A few minutes later when the assistant manager came back from her break, i tell her what happens and she explains to me that this guy comes in every now and again and that they do call him a taxi at times but its nothing to get worked up over though as i didn't know that i was allowed to do this.
Well....today I get start my 12 hour shift for Black Friday 5pm to 5am God help me
Well....today I get start my 12 hour shift for Black Friday 5pm to 5am God help me
Christ, and I thought it was bad that some stores were opening at 10pm tonight. What the fuck is wrong with our culture when we force workers away from their families on a fuckin' holiday like this?
The girl who works at my GameStop is named Tit. What a fucking name.
The girl who works at my GameStop is named Tit. What a fucking name.
I didn't even know that was a name. Let alone a danish name.
I'd like to see HER nametags.
She couldn't exactly get the change if she accepted the free drink could she.
Not get change and get free drink Not get change and not get free drink Option #1 is better. [editline]24th November 2011[/editline]
Well....today I get start my 12 hour shift for Black Friday 5pm to 5am God help me
17.5 hours. 4:30am to 10:00pm :v:
I've never worked retail, but I have worked fast food. For anyone who lives in Ottawa or has visited, I used to work at the A&W at the Rideau Centre for a year and a half. When I first started, I was a total shit and started hitting on one of my co-workers; I was very public about it and didn't give a fuck. Well as it turned out not only did she not like me, but turned into a raging bitch towards me. We had OK periods together, but all in all her behaviour towards me was childish and incredibly rude. I really have nothing but comtempt for her, esspecially since I got over the crush and tried to be polite with her, in spite of her. So finally comes the day when I'm fed up with my job and decide to quit. So I'm on my last shift, and she's about to leave for the day. We're both on cash, and it's kind of busy but we don't give a fuck. "So -girl-, today's my last shift. Have anything left to say?" I ask her. "Our time together has been... interesting," she says. I think to myself, how gracious of her to say so. Maybe she's changed. Nah. She asks, "You?" I follow her to the door between the front and back, she's in the doorway; a beautiful twilight zone where no one on either side can hear you talk. I say, "-girl-, even when I did have a crush on you," she laughs, I think this may have been the only point when I knew her when I admitted it outloud. She bats her eyelashes, and looks away. I lean into her, so that only she can hear as she looks back to me, "I always thought you were a cunt." Her jaw drops. I wink. She storms off. I go back to my cash and take an order. Not a single fuck given.

We're not allowed to buy anything until 11am.
